They spent a few hours in Rocky Mount. Miss Sallie Harris will return Sun day from Richmond, where she is visiting her sister, Miss Pat Harris. Mr. and Mrs. v C. B. Clark and sons, Claud 8., Albert L., and Billy, spent last week end with relatives in Dur ham. Mrs. R. S. Critcher, who has been visiting her son, Rev. Duke Critcher, in Garysburg, will return tomorrow. G. W- Hardison returned Wednes day from Chariotle and other western North Carolina points, whers he has been on a business trip. Mrs. W. H. Lilley and little son, Arthur, and Mr. M. L. Davis passed through yesterday en route to Wilson to spend the day. Mr. and Mrs. N. Orleans, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Orleans, Solly and Freddy Orleans, will spend Sunday in Dur hum, where they will be met by Miss Laura, who is a student at N. C. C. W., Greensboro, this year. lira. Ft Manning, of Middlesex, is spending some time here and in the lower end of Griffins Township, where he is buying timber for the Mont gomery Lumber Co. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schwartz, of Bal timore, who have been visiting the Murgolis, left for their home yester day. E. S. Peel, Frank Margolis, Rev. Pardo, and Mr. Bloom motored to Jackson Wednesday night to attend the charter presentation banquet of the Jackson Kiwanis Club. A discount of one per cent will be given on all taxes paid in the months of October and November. On all taxes paid during the month of Januaiy, after the first day of that month, a penalty of one per cent per month shall be On all taxes paid during the month of Feb ruary, after the first day of that month, a penalty of two per cent shall be added. Twentieth Century Club Met With Mrs. Godsrd \ The Twentieth Century Club met with Mrs. J. G. Godard, jr., Wednes day afternoon from 8.30 to 6.80. There were several guests invited, among whom were Mesdames A. R. Dunning, J. D. Woolard, P. B. Cone, W. T. Hunter, A. R White, Ned Laughing house, and Misses Delphia Peeftles and Mary Smith. The program for the afternoon was on "the Highlands of Carolina." Mrs. F W. Hoyt had the paper for the afternoon, which was a description of the physical beauty of western Car olina. Mrs. Elbert Peel read a paper pre pared by Mrs. Stubbs on the customs and living conditions of the moun taineers. She also had current events for the afternoon. Mrs. J. S. Rhodes and Miss Carrie Dell White, accompanied by Mrs. J. H. Saunders, delighted their hearers with a vocal duet. The hostess served a fruit salad course, consisting of fruit salad, nut and cheese sandwiches, potato chips, olives, pickles, wafers, and tea. She had her home attractively decor ated with fall flowers for the pleas ure of her guests. Books were exchanged, and a de lightful hour of conversation enjoyed by the club members, who were near ly all present; and the special guests, Mesdames J. Stewart Early and H. M.
