The Vacation Problem
What will the thousands of boys,
and girls in the State who are getting
out of school do with themselves the
next four months is about the. big--j
gest question for consideration at the •
present time.
Of course, most of the country chil
dren will be called into the service o*
farm work, where they will get in
touch with real life and get a close
sight at nature.
Some of them will get a glimpse of
the rising sun and hear the early
bird sing and whistle, anil they
hear the insects buzzing. They will
learn the length of a July day, from
suii to sun, with seven hours between
nuals. But the experience is worth
it, for it teaches them to know what
it takes to change the latent powers
of land, sunshine, and lain into life
sustaining crops for food and rat
ment.
This cla.ss of children will be fairly
safe until the school bell rings again.
But what shall we do with the town
youngster, who'lias, nothing to do but
loaf and then loaf some more, is no
small problem.
It is a hard thing to keep idj,t hands
clean, and when the child leaves
school for four months with no work

trouble as a rudderless ship is to meet |
destruction on a rocky reef.
