Chief of Police Daniel is spending a few days with the Boy Scouts at Nags Head. Rupert Phillips of Everetts was in town yesterday. Mr. Stroupe, of Cherryville, spent the week end with Mayor R. L. Cob urn. Dr .and Mrs. J. H. Saunders and Jack Baker are planning to leave Thursday for a several days stay at Nags Head. Mrs. R. M. Hearne ,of Greenville, is spending some time with her broth el, Dr. W. E. Warren and Mrs. War ren. • - Mrs. Raymond McKenzie, of Ral eigh, who spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Mrs. Carrie Biggs Williams and daughter, Miss Frances, returned Thursday from Virginia Beach where they spent some time following Mrs. Williams 'stay in a Norfolk hospital. BIRTHDAY PARTY I Friday afternoon from 4 to 6 o'- clock at the home of her grandmother little Ray Leggett entertained about f/ty of her litle friends in celebration i f her fourth birthday. She was showered with many very pretty gifts ■n remembrance of her birthday. Led by several older people, the little children palyed games for an hour and a half before they were invited to the dining room where they cut the pretty birthday cake on which four candles were burning. Dr. Edgar Long has returned from Richmond. Mrs. S. D. Matthews, Mrs. T. B. Slade and Miss Annie Jones spent the duy at Bayview Thursday. Mrs. Ballard, Mrs. Dunn and Miss Kffie Waldo attended bridge open ing at Edenton last Wednesday with Miss Mary Whitaker and Mr. Lee Whitaker of Enfteld. Mr. and Mrs. West left for Char lottesville, Va. where they will assist Mr. Early in a meeting. CARD CLIIB MEETING At her home on Church street, Mrs. John W. Manning was hostess to the Thursday Card club and an extra table of friends last Thursday morn ing. Mrs. Roy Gurganus made high score and she was given a piece of lingerie and Mrs. Kdgar l'ascoe was presented a linen towel. The hostess served a delightful luncheon ut one o'clock. There were two courses, old ham with potato salad, asparagus tips, hot biscuits, pickles and tea and ice cream and take. The special guests were Mrs. Edgar l'ascoe ,of Tampa, Fla., Mrs. C. A. Harrison and ' Miss Carrie Delle White. MACON-BURRAS The following cards have been sent to friends outside of Williamston: "Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Munroe Burras announce the marriage of their daugh ter, Sarah Elisabeth, to Mr. Sebastian Macon, on Saturday afternoon, July 23 Williamston, North Carolina." The announcement of Miss Burras and Mr. Macon's marriage will be re ceived with interest, as they both have AD .unusually large circle of friends. The marriage came as a sur prise, although the engagement hod been formally announced and several parties had been given for the bride elect. The wedding took place at the residence of the bride's parents on Main Street on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. The Rev. Mr. Lee, pastor of the Methodist church, per formed the ceremony. Miss Burras was accompanied by her father, who gave her in marriage, ami Mr. Macon hed, as his best man, Harry A. Biggs. Miss Carrie Dell White played the wedding music. Miss Burras is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Burras and is a young lady of rare charm and in tellect.
