Fire losses in North Carolina last
month totalled $.!84,44(i from 124 fires,
according to the monthly report is
sued yesterday by the State Insurance
Department.
The June loss exceeded the June loss

Month of June
An average of five and one-half
North Carolinians met violent death
each day last month, the
June report oi the Bureau of Vital
Statistics of tin State Board of Health.
'As usual, automobiles killed more
people than anything else. 52 dying in
motor accidents in this State during
the 30-day period. Five of .these deaths:
occurred at~ grade crossings >
Both homicide and suicide totals
were high last mohth, 24 being -killed
by their fellow men and an et|tial num
ber meeting death at their own hands.
Thirty people were drowned in the
State last month. Others•• totals fol
low: Burned to death. 13; killed by ac
cidental gunshot wounds, 3; killed by
gunshot wounds ol doubtful nature.

500,000. according to figures compiled
