COUNTY Alexander County Farm Is Built Up Until About on Sel-Supporting Basis The success of the farm demonstra tion agent in Alexander County in helping to place the county home farm on a self-supporting basis is now be ing used as a good illustration of the value of extension work in that coun ty 'I have known this farm for a num ber of years,' says K. S. Millsaps, dis trict agent for State College in the Piedmont section, 'and I have never seen a place that has been brought up more rapidly. Formerly the institu tion was poorly managed. But it was placed under the control of the coun ty commissioners who hired a man ager and then placed the supervision of the place under County Agent D. SPOTS BEFORE EYES Miner Had Dark Spots Before Eyes. Felt Dull, Tired, Achy. Doesn't Get Down Any More. Somerset, Ky—Telling how he had known of the merit of Thedford's Black-Draught since he was a boy. Mr. Albert Oarland, of this city, recently Mid: "I used to work In the mines, but lost quite a bit of time on ac count of the sick spells I had. 1 would get to having a bad taste In my mouth, and a very dull, tired " feeling and ache. I would have dark ■pots In front of my eyes, and I would be ao dizzy I would stagger like I was drunk. "I took medicine, but didn't seem to get any better. "My mother told me to try Black- Draught, which I did, and after a few doses I felt much better. Now I take it as soon as I feel the least bad, and I dont get down. I cer tainly can say that It has done more for me than any other medi cine I have ever taken. "I never get without Black- Draught If Igo on a visit, I take a package along In my suit-case. My health Is better now than It bas been In years, and I believe it la the use of Black-Draught tliat did It" Black-Draught Is prepared from medicinal roots and herbs, of hlgh est quality. Try It. Osborne. He had extension agron omist E. C. Blair visit the farm and make plans for a definite crop rota, tion. Since that time, legumes have been grown each season and now the crops of wheat or corn following the legumes are very good. Thery is a field of 20 acres of corn on the place npw that is the best I have seen in the State and most of it is on a les pedeza and reKclover sod turned un der last spring. It is almost unbeliev able that such corn is growing on land that five years ago would not pro duce over 10 bushels to the acre.' Mr. Millsaps states that the mana ger has all the hay he needs to feed his livestock and has plenty of corn to last the remainder of the season. A nice Jersey herd is being started, and there are some excellent hogs on the place. In general, the farm is about on a self-support basis in spite of the poor labor available to work it. The success which Mr. Osborne has bad with this institution has mad* many friends for hint in the county, states Mr. Millsaps, and has done much to place his work on a sound footing. The agent conducts a num ber of important demonstrations here and then the results out to the' people of the county, thus making this j farm a center of the best farming practices. .
