W. Martin afforded the young people
of Jamesville much pleasure Thurs
day night, August 13, when Miss
Tiny Martin delightfully entertained
them at a party.
Dancing and bridge were enjoyed
until a late hour, after which ice

The secret marriage of Miss Daisy
Lena Whitley to Mr. James Edwin
Griffin in Elizabeth City, Sunday,
March I, was announced by the
bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Em
mett Perkins Whitley, here last Sat
urday, the announcement Liking the
many friends of the young couple by
great surprise. Mr. and Mrs. Griffin
at the present time are in Georgia,
where Mr. Griffin is connected with
the Valdosta tobacco market this
year.
Mrs. Griffin, the attractive daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Whitley,
has many friends here among the
younger set. She is the grand
daughter of James Augustus Whitley
'one of the three Confederate sol
diers farthest at the battle of Gettys
burg.
Mr. Griffin is the son of Mrs. Wil
liam E. Griffin, this county, and is
prominently connected with the
Farmers Supply Company and the
local tobacco market. Following his
graduation from the Williamston
High School, he attended the Uni
versity of North Carolina, receiving
his diploma from that institution in
1925.
Mr. and Mrs. Griffin will lie at
home with Mr. and Mrs. 1). M. Rob
erson, in New Town, after Septem
ber 1.
