PAGE FOUR LARGE CROWD ' HEARS SENATOR MORRISON HERE Ably Proves He Is Not An Ad Valorem Tax Advdcate (Continued from Page One) —. — I - (_' support him. whoever he may be, for | 1 I know he will be better than Hoover." In closing his address, Mr. Morri son mentioned the McNinch confirma-j tion, explaining his action apparently to the satisfaction of his audience. "I j did not ask the President to appointj McNinch, and after confirming a long list of other appointees throughout the country, I followed the custom and voted for confirmation of McNinch. I knew the man was honest. He was a neighbor of mine, and as .long as he raised such a ruckus in the state IJ thought it would be well,to get him out and salt him down. 1 thought I j had made no error, and I was honest in rtiy opinion, but can't you forgive a man if he does make such a mistake once in a while," lie pleaded with his. hearers. ~ "I am happy to serve the people, and I will be happy continue in their service as United States Senator. I would like to carry a banner in my maturity and make a last struggle a gainst the Republican Party," he said, adding that if nominated he would carry the banner against all comers to victory and uphold the principles of the Democratic party. "But the will —of the people d- North- Carolina--be. done," he concluded. The Senator explained that he had many speaking engagements this week and that he could not go into all the questions of importance, that he was scheduled to make two addresses daily j during the remainder of the week. j "While I am away I am paired with another member of the Senate, and I arranged my leave with the steering committee," he explained. | Elbert S. Peel, chairman of the ( Martin County Democratic Executive committee thanked the people for at-j tending the meeting, and presented j Justice J. L. Hassell who eloquently introduced Mr. Klorrisoh, pointing out' his record as a supporter of Demo- 1 cracy and his work accomplished in behalf of the people of North Caro lina ' PLENTY of TIME to WIN THAT FREE TRIP BUT THE BOYS WHO GO TO WORK EARLY WILL FIND THE GOING EASIER THAN THOSE WHO WAIT. MAKES PROFIT I ON SMALL FARM Reports Reveal Number of Farmers Made Money Last Year Reports received at State College through the North Carolina Bankers' j Association indicate that there are j good farmers in North Carolina who 5 made money last year despite low j prices and unfavorable economic con-1 ditions. In' the last few days, Charles A. j Sheffield, assistant extension director, has received 63 reports from farmers j who are candidates for the grade "A" i certificate as sponsored by the Agri- j cultural Committee of the bankers' or- j ganization. Mr. Sheffield has been j studying these reports so that certifi- j cates might be issued to all those making a grade of 80 per cent and above. | A typical example of a farmer who 1 is living at home and making some | : money is M. L. Adderholdt, of Lex ington, Route 4. Mr. Adderholdt ! owns 106 acres of land of which 80 acres arc cleared for cultivation. Last year he sold $1,707.04 worth of prod | uce from this place as follows: certi fied small grain seed, $510; veal and pork, $19944; garden vegetables, $35; sweet potatoes, S2O; irish potatoes,. sl6; eggs and poultry, $66.60; fruit, $35; cotton. $360, and truck crops, S4OO. In addition to these sales, Mr. Ad-| derholdt grows enough vegetables and fruit for the use of his family and j some to save for winter. He grows all the grain and forage for his live | sjock; has enough pork, milk, butter, eggs and poultry for home use and i keeps his land in a high state of fer-. tility by growing legume crops.. He |imes about 20 acres of land each I year, using about 500 pounds of limc ' stone an acre to keep the soil in a ' sweetened condition. The income of $1,700 is almost clear 1 net cash and shows the possibilities of farming, even during a depression j>erio}, when good methods are fol ' lowed.' * | * Checks for $89,128 have been re ceived by farmers of Pitt County from ,4he government seed loan fund. i ' NOTICE OF SALE OF REAL Under and by virtue of the power of sale contained in a certain deed oi PUSLItM SO KVMV TU&DAY KI..PAY trust executed on January 18, 1930, by A.
