PAGE SIX Democrat Loans Matt Pants So He Can Vote Franklin. —Politicians may come and politicians may go, but none could possibly be more resourcesful in a case of extreme emergency than "Uncle Bill" Barker, of Macon Coun ty, credited with being one of the most active workers for the Democrats here. While campaigning for his ticket in a mountainous section last 1 "Uncle Bill" said he arrived at a house and found the owner at home. Upon being requested to go to the polls and vote, the man told his visitor that he was without a pair of trousers suit able to wear "in public places." Always resourceful, "Uncle Bill" in vited his host to follow him intq a forest near by. There the veteran campaigner took off his trousers and loaned therit the mountaineer, who donned them and went to the polls and voted. Until he returned "Uncle Bill" said he waited in the shelter of the forest, minus his trousers tempo rarily—"but giad to do a friend a favor."
