PAGE FOUR Tobacco Campaign ■ Gets Under Way ' • With , the arrival at"* State College of the first batch of .tobacco con tracts, plans for getting the acreage adjustment campaign under way at once are now going forward rapidly. During the past week, the publica tions offi:e at State College has mail ed to county farm agents in the 57 counties growing flue-cured tobacco over one million blanks, forms and other printed supplies to be used in connection with the campaign. At the same time, g >wers are also urged to secure the ecessary data shewing the amount d price of to bacco sold before t!ie marketing holiday and after t c h >liday and be fore the agreement made with the big buy ng tompanies n October 7. Those who secure this information, with proof of its correctness will get a compensation payment for such to bacco sold This compensation pay ment will be 20 per cent of the value f the tobacco > Id before the holiday and 1(1 per cen of the value of that sold between the holiday and the signing of the marketing agreement. Only those wh > sign adjustment con tracts, howev Tr—will get this com pensation payment. Mr. Schaub urges all tobacco grow ers to cooperate with the county agents in getting the new contracts signed., The quicker this is done, the quicker will the rental payments lie made and the whole program put into effect. I f nvestigations have shown that ' practically all fires in the county or iginated with careless hunters and smokers who were more interested in tlie killing of a rabbit than the pre servation of valuable timber lands. 6 ROAD PROJECTS IN EACH COUNTY OF STATE IS PLAN Is Part of Plan To Put Four 1 Million People To Work This Winter Washingotn.—As part of the plan to put 4,000,000 men now on part time relief work on full time, under the new Civil Works Administration, every state highway commission has been urged to find a minimum of 6 road projects in each of the 3,000 counties in the country on which road mainte ' nance expenditures of not more than ' SS,(MM) each can be made promptly. It fully realized, this would mean , some 18,000 projects involving poten ■ tial outlay of *90,000,000, The cost is to be advanced in the proportion of 65 per cent from Federal relief funds and 35 per cent from Federal road aid to States. Highway commissions were asked to list immediately projects available in unemployed areas. The new Civil Works Administra tion is conducted by the Federal Emer gency Relief Administrator, with the same office force. President Roose velt set apart for it $400,000,000 from the public works fund to hasten full time employment of present part-time workers now on relief rolls with the purpose of making them ,self-sustain ♦ Mrs. F.
