It was learned here that he was identi fied by the woman, and that lie is be ing held for rial in the Wayne Super ior court. Traveling in the Goldsboro section Phelps and Johnnie James stopped to offer assistance to some people who had been in an aut,o wreck. The two men were asked to take the woman to a hospital in Goldsboro. James drove the car and Phelps held the woman in the hack scat. The woman claims that while on the way to the hospital Phelps removed the two rings from her finger, that she was in such a con dition that she could neither speak or prevent the removal of her rings. She further claims that upon her arrival at the hospital she told nurses of the robbery, but the defendant heard noth ing about the charge until officers came here armed with a warrant for : his arrest. James and Phelps gave their names and addresses to police-' men and' continued to their homes here. When the woman had suffic-i jintly recovered she liarl, a warrant sworn out for Phelps, maintaining he had robbed her of the rings. Mr. James says lie knows nothing about the alleged robbery, as he was driving He neither herad nor saw anything in connection with, Ihe alleged robbery.
