riage of July 29, 1938, at the Bap
tist. parsonage in Clayton, N. C.
Mrs. Steele was until her recent
marriage, manager of the Atlantic
Hotel here. Mr. Steele is employed
by the N. C. State Highway De
partment and is formerly of Raleigh.
After a short wedding trip in the
western part of the State, the cou
ple spent the week-end here visiting
friends and relatives before going to

Drunken Drivers Sentenced
To the Rbads in
Two Cases

Holding its first session since the
first of this month, the Martin
County Recorder's court handled
thirteen cases last Monday when
Judge H O. Peel oiamped down on
drunken automobile drivers and
ordered two of thenfto the roads.
' The holiday -njoyed by the court
| allowed an accummulatien of cases,
the number if apportioned to two
sessions being about the average
handled by the tribunal in recent
months A fair-sized crowd was at
tracted to the session which was
concluded before the noon hour.
Clyde Silverthorne, veteran who
was shell-shocked in the World war,
was adjudged guilty in the case
charging disorderly conduct. A three
months' road sentence was meted
out ,the court suspending judgment
upon condition that the defendant
enter a veterans' hospital.

Mary Eliza Davis, charged with
violating the liquor laws, was ad
judged guilty, the court suspending
judgment in the case for two years.
After the State rested in the case
charging Jack. Dixon with disorder
ly conduct, the defense counsel
made a motion for judgment as of
non-suit and the motion was allow
ed by the court.
Charged with reckless driving and
operating a motor vehicle with im
proper equipment, Amos Williams
was fined $10 and had his driver's
license revoked for a period of three
months.
The case charging John Smith
with breaking out of the Hamilton
jail was continued under prayer for
judgment until the first Monday in
next November.
Bernard Lewis, charged" with
drunken driving, was fined $100, the
court revoking his driver's license
for one year. Unable to pay the fine
Lewis was later sentenced to the
roads for a period of six months.
Will Modlca, charged with as
saulting a female in three cases, was
sentenced to the roads for a term of
nine months, or three months in
each case.
Charged with violating the liquor
laws, Sam Hardison was found not
guilty. After the State rested in
the jase. miinsel for the defendant
moved for judgment as of non-suit
and the motion was granted.
Jesse Matthews, charged with
drunken driving, was sentenced to
the roads for a term of sixty days,
the court suspending judgment upon

fendant's driving license for one
year.
