GIRL SCOUTS MEET
The Wo-He-Lb Girl Scouts held
their regular meeting Thursday in
the courthouse with a good attend
ance.
The meeting was called to order
by Miss Mary Taylor, leader, and a
business discussion was held. Each
member was asked to say the laws
The group was invited by the lead
er to go on a weiner roast the fol
lowing day. After a long hike the
girls enjoyed the eats and roasting
marshmallows..
The next meeting will be held on

Thirteen 4-H Clubs
Hold Regular Meet
Thirteen clubs in the county with
attendance of 323 this month began
their major project work for the
year in "What can be done to make
the exterior of my home more at
tractive." This is the first time home
beautification work has been carried
as a project by the girls.
The elementary clubs are making
a study of correctly planted flower
gardens and the flowers which can
be planted in them. The older girls
are requested to make a picture 6f
their home first and begin plans for
improving the grounds. This in
cludes a completed plan.
Native and nursery grown shrubs
are to be studied, transplanting,
propagating and placing of shrubs.
Plans have been made for leader
schools for the girls, conducted by
John Harris, landscape architect,
from the extension department of
Raleigh.

Farmers Relish
Taylor Barbecue
Coming together as a strong unit
in one of the most forceful farmers'
organization in the country, Martin
County farmers in the New Caro
lina warehouse?hare?last Friday
night showed their taste for Farm
er Van Taylor's barbecue. Several
hundred farmers and quite a few
business men from over the county,
recently organized into one of the
strongest farm bureau units in the
State, attended the free feast and ate
sparingly of the tempting barbecue,
Brunswick stew, slaw and good
country cornbread
Climaxing an extensive member
ship drive, the supper was given
free to the membership, leaders in
the organization and others interest
ed in the advancement of agricul
ture in the county donating a total
of eleven pigs and quite a few cash
dollars.
Farm Bureau President C. A. Rob
erson and others assisted Mr Tay
lor, the group really making a suc
cess of the event. A vote of appre
ciation was extended Mr. Taylor and
his assistants by the members after
repairing to the courthouse for a
series of addresses.
We and our families desire to ex
press our sincere appreciation for
every act of kindness done and ev
ery word of sympathy offered dur
ing the recent illness and burial of
our father. Such expressions of sym
pathy from friends help to lighten
our burdens during hours of sorrow
and bereavement, and will long be
remembered by us.
