Armistice Day, November 11th. |
will be a day long to be remember
ed in Edenton. according to present
plans for a celebration under the
auspices of Ed Bond Post of the j
American Legion.
The biggest feature of the day will j
be a football game in the afternoon
at 2 30 o'clock between the Wake |
Forest College freshman team and
the Norfolk Naval Base Hospital J
team.
Preceding this attraction a big
parade will be held which will in
elude bands from a number of the !
adjoining towns under the direction i
of C. L. McCullers, Edenton band di
rector. The affair, while sponsored |
by the Legionnaires, has the sup
port of the various Edenton organ
izations and it is expected a large
prcywd will attend.
The Wake Forest Baby Deacons,
under the tutelage of Athletic Di- .
rector Jim Weaver. Murray Greason. i
Art Lea and Phil Utley. have steam- j
rollered practically all opposition
this season and are boasting of a
freshman eleven, the strongest since I
the championship '37 team that went
undefeated. This year's team won
from the Duke frosh 7-6 and over
William and Mary's freshmen 13-7.
Last week over at Chapel Hill, j
they smashed the Tar Heel Yearlings j
19-12. Though held to a one touch- I
down margin, the Deaclets led 13-0
at halftime and the second stringers
played most of the last half.
Wake Forest's backficld has been
sparked in these three successful
tilts by Bob Jordan, triple threat
quarterback from Whiteville; John
ny Perry, 175 pound fullback from
Raleigh, who does most of the punt
ing Carl Grad, 180 pound blocking
hack, and Burnie Martin, 205 pound
blocking back from Richmond who
shares this assignment with Grad
Other Baby Deacon stars have
been Jack Ciccarelli. Burnie Capps
and Mike Nesteruk, ends; Buck
Jones, Urban Schlegel. George Ow

tackles; Andy Karmazin, brother of

best end prospects ever seen at Wake
Forest. He stands almost ti feet and
weighs 200. Burnic Capps is another
outstanding wing candidate lit*

Each year practically every team
in the country has one game on the
schedule that is probably the most
important to win. The opposite
may not be the strongest on the card,
nor may the game bear great im
portance on any championship race
but what makes it so mP?r "
the two schools is the keen rivalry
that dates way baek.
Such is probably the case between
North Carolina State and Wake koi

afternoon. There's a rivalry here that
just about evens things in the pre
game ratings regardless of the on
paper potentialities of the two foe.

Wake Forest, on the other hand,
