BARNHILL HARRISON
Miss Ruby Elizabeth Harrison and
Julius Thomas Barnhill, Jr., were
married in the Christian Church
here Wednesday evening, August 20,
at eight o'clock, with Rev. John L.
Goff, officiating
A program" of nuptial music was
presented by Mrs. W. C. Manning,
and a trio composed of Misses Mar
jorie Gray Dunn. Kathenne Manning
and Elizabeth Parker sang Guy d'
Hardelot's "Because," and "I Love
Thee" by Grieg At the conclusion
of the ceremony, a prayer, "God
Bless and Keep Thee" was sung.
Traditional wedding marches were
used and McDowell's "To a Wild
Rose," was played softly as the vows
were spoken.
The altar was beautifully decor
ated with a background of long leaf
pine, ivy and fern. The arch Was en
twined with ivy and white asters.
Tall baskets filled with white gladi
oli and easier lilies were placed on
either side and seven-branch candel
abra shed a soft light on the setting.
Reserved pews were marked with
white gladioli upd asters
The bride was given in marriage
by her father. Mr. Henry D. Harrison
and wore a wedding gown of gar
denia satin fashioned with heart
shaped neckline trimmed with lace.
The long fitted sleeves puffed at I
the shoulders and ended in a point |
over her hands Rows of lace inser
tion extended from the fitted waist
line to the full length of the train.
Her lull length veil was entirely
edged with chantilly lace and fell
from a Mary Queen of Scots bonnet

groom's gift. The bride carried a
wedding ring bouquet made of White
gladioli and stephanotis tied with
i white satin.
Miss Nell Harrison, sister of the
bride, was maid of honor and her

was made identical to the bride's.
She wore matching gloves and a
Mary, Queen of Scots bonnet of
green net. She carried a Colonial
bouquet of lavendar and yellow gla
dioli with matching ribbon The
bridesmaids. Mrs. Vernon Bunting,
sister of the bridegroom, and Miss
Julia Everett, wore dresse of maize
and Mrs. Elbert I we Sherman and
Miss Ella Wynne Critcher wore lav
endar. AH tire dresses were fashion
ed similar to the maid of honor's,
and they wore matching gloves with
tiaras, and net veils Their nosegays
were of contrasting gladioli.
Little Miss Sandra Harrison, niece
of the bride, flower girl, wore white
net with a matching bonnet and car
ried a basket covered with white
net filled with flowers as the brides
maids bouquets. Master Fred Pol
lard. of Robersonville, nephew of th?v
groom, was ring bearer

brother as best man and ushers were

Mrs. Harrison was dressed in a

wore navy and white with a corsage

Mrs Barnhill is the daughter of
Ml and Mrs Henry Davis Harrison,

ding party arranged on the buffet
predominated in the decorations.
Ice cream, nuts and mints were
served by Misses Florence Adams
and Alice Burke, of La Grange;
Blanche Dawson, of Clinton and Bet
sy Manning.

Miss Betty Louise Lilley and Car
roll Christopher Coltrain were mar
ried Sunday, August 17, at the home
of the bride's parents in Griffins
Township.
Mrs. Coltrain wore for her wed
ding a becoming blue ensemble with
white accessories and had a shoul
der corsage of sweetheart roses and
baby's breath. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. B F. Lilley and at
tended a Raleigh business school.
She is employed in the law office of
AttWffey wheeler Martin here-.
The bridegroom, son of Mr. C. C.
Coltrain and the late Mrs. Coltrain,
of near here is connected with the
Sinclair Service Station here.
Mr. and Mrs. Coltrain are at home
with his brother. Mr. Garland Col

Honoring two brides-elect, Miss
Dorothy Hurley, of Williamston, and
Miss Katherine Jones, of Greenville,
Miss Lucy Wynne entertained at a
bridge dinner Thursday evening at
her home in Washington.
Dinner in two courses was served
from auxiliary tables arranged In
the adjoining living room and dining
room. The tables of all white ap
pointment were centered with Pic
cardy gladioli floating in crystal con
tainers an0 the table where the
brides-elect were seated was mark
ed with centerpieces of floating
white gladioli. The main dinner
course of chilled tomatoes stuffed
with chicken salad, deviled eggs, po
tato chips, hot cheese biscuits, pickles
and iced tea, was followed by a des
sert course of lemon ice and individ
ual cakes frosted in pastel shades
and centered with miniature brides
maids in frilly gowns of shade to
blend with the cake frosting. The
cakes which marked_Miss Hurley
and Mm Jones' plate were all white
and had miniature brides wearing
traditional white.
Following the dinner the iemain
der of the evening was devoted to
bridge and at the conclusion of pro
gressions the high score award was
presented Mrs. Wheeler Manning, of
Williamston. and Miss Glennie
Morse, of Elizabeth City, was second
high scorer. Miss Hurley and Miss
Jones were presented silver in their
chosen patterns.
Guests from Williamston were,
Miss Hurley, Mrs. Wheeler Manning,
Mrs. W K Parker, Mrs. James Ward
and Miss Ruth Hurley.
