Band Benefit Partyl
Here Is Big Success
The band benefit game party held
last Thursday night in the gym was
a success both from an entertainment
and financial standpoint. The affair
was sponsored by the Band Parents
Association for the purpose of rais
ing money to provide new uniforms
for the high school band.
The band opened the program with
a short concert which featured a
new march, "The Hall of Fame,"
which had been in rehearsal only a
week. Mr. D. N. Hix gave a brief
talk summarizing the progress of the
band during the past year, and its
plans for the future. The guests then
turned to the games and refresh
ments which were in charge of the
band mothers.
At 9:30, Mr. Butler conducted the
drawing of the evening. In this man
ner prizes were distributed to hold
ers of lucky tickets. Approximately
100 prizes were given away; these
prizes were presented for the occa
sion by the merchants of the town.
This is only the first of several
such affairs which are being planned
for this purpose. Through able co
operation of the parents, merchants
ami friends, the band has the sum of
$146 in its uniform fund.

Oak City Schools
The P.T.A. met fast Thursday, Oc
tober 24th. It was moved up because
Mr. Hoffman would not have been
able to bring the motion picture on
Social Security over next week. In
spite of a tent show, which was in
town, there was a good meeting. Pro
fessor Bunn, principal of the Ham
ilton school, made a short talk. The
next meeting is scheduled for No
vember 27th.
Dr. Preston, a retired minister
from Texas, who is making a tour
of high schools, giving lectures,
spoke here Thursday morning at ten
o'clock. His topic was Character Edu
cation. Everyone enjoyed and no
doubt profited by this talk.
Regular periods for basketball
practice have been established and
the boys are getting down to real
work. With work on at least better
than average team can be expected
it is reported.
The Halloween Carnival will be
