We should rejoice that we are Am ericans and resolve that not one day in the entire year will we be guilty of any waste, particularly in foods and those health giving substances with which they are possessed. After the Holiday Feasts the stor age of leftovers will be many. The turkey platter must be looking ra ther forlorn but if you have been careful to salvage the scraps of meat and stuffing much favor will be won by carefully disguising them into de licious croquettes and individual meat loaves, or pies. Kingdom Invaded The Ranee of Sarawak listens to the radio for the latest war bulletins. Japanese troops are reported to have gained a foothold in at least two areas in the oil-rich protecto rate of Sarawak on Borneo Island. British forces blew up oil wells be fore withdrawing from these points. The Ranee is living in New York at present. ; Anti-Knock Gas Properties Lower Anti-knock properties of gas you buy at the filling stations may be somewhat lower, because military machines, especially airplanes, come first in tetra-ethyl priorities. They need high and super-high-octane fuels; that for planes runs up to 100 cictane. Refineries have agreed to a voluntary plan for lowering their regular 75-octane brands to about 72 1-2. though oil industry techni cians claimed that reducing it to 70, as first proposed by OPA, would mean a oonsiderable reduction in miles-per-gallon, besides less knock protection. In line with the general emphasis on careful use of money and materials of all "strategic" kinds is the tip to motorists to keep a clos er check on car mileage and knock performance, and have the garage man make the simple adjustments in ignition timing that may be needed to get maximum performance out of the kind of fuel that's available.
