My Daily Prayer
Author Unknown
“This coming year I'd like to be a friend to
everyone;
I’d like to feel each day well spent at setting
of the sun;
I’d like to know that I have done at least one
kindly deed,
Before I lay me down to sleep that I have
given heed—
To some one’s cry for sympathy, or friendship
or that I
Have made the day seem brighter to some
chance passer-by,
And that the world is better still in just some
little way,
Because I’ve tried to live the very best I could
each day.
“I’d like to be a ray of light when skies are
overcast,
I'd like to help some one who failed to blot out
all the past,
To start again despite the storms, and find the
skies are blue,
To know that in this good old world there's
lots that’s fine and true,
I d like to be the kind of person everyone will
love,
And make the world seem just a little more
like heaven above;
I'd like in all my dealings to be true and just
and fair,
That God will help me do these things shall
be my daily prayer.”
Room For Improvement
North Carolina is rated a progressive state,
but there is still much room for improvement.
Last year, the per capita income in North '
Carolina was only $689, the figures being only
62 percent uicomr received on an average
in the nation In 192V;hehanki'CaroTraiatt re-*'
ceived, on an average, only $309, or about 45th
of the average received by others.
In addition to ranking far below the average
in income, North Carolina ranks 35th in public.

It is admitted that there are some shiftless
persons in North Carolina, but there ain’t so
many as. to hold, the income aye rage -tv such a -
.Xow figure or to make iorsueh a bad showing
in public education. There are, it must be ad
mitted, ether reasons, and if we want to head
off the isms, those reasons must be recognized
and corrected.
A Gentle Reminder
Building costs in World War I and its post
war inflationary period increased 218 percent.
Two out of every three homes built during the
period were, in due time, foreclosed.
Certain occasions, considered either collec
tively or individually and observed properly,
tend to give the activity of man infinite scope;
but mere merry-making or needless gift-giving
is not that in which human capacities find the
most appropriate and proper exercise.—Mary
Baker Eddy.
The best thing to give to your enemy is for
giveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend,
your heart; to your child, a good example; to a
father, deference; to your mother, conduct that
will make her proud of you; to yourself respect;
to all men, charity.—Balfour.
Falsehood is in a hurry; it may be at any mo
ment detected and punished; truth is calm, se
rene; its judgment is on high; its king cometh
out of the chambers of eternity.—Joseph Park
er.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from
above, and cometh down from the Father of
lights, with whom is no variableness, neither
shadow of turning.—James 1:17.
He who shall introduce into the public af

Franklin.

Business is never so healthy as when like a
chicken, it must do a certain amount of scratch
ing for what it gets.—Henry Ford.
Christianity is not a theory or speculation,
but a life; not a philosophy of life, but a life and
having a living process.—Coleridge.

Delegation Seeks
Loan For Russia
The CIO delegation, which recent
ly visit* d the Soviet Union, will
soon report on its observations and
will emphasize the importance of
substantial loans for economic re
construction, it has been learned.
The report is expected to point
out that large-scale business with
Russia will create jobs for American
business in the next crucial years.
The delegation stressed this point
in an interview with Ambassador
Averell Harriman. It is understood
that when Harriman sugested Rus
sia was not now in a position to ex
port materials sufficient to pay off
the American loans, the delegation
pointed out that credits should be
considered a long-range proposition,
for thirty or fifty years.
Another feature of the report will
bo a recommendation that corres
ponding unions of the U. S. S. R. and
the U. S. A. should exchange dele
gations. In the experience of the
CIO delegation, an intimate contact
with the Soviet trade union leaders
cleared up misunderstanding and
promoted a genuine sense of mutual
interest.
