As the City Fathers are declar
ing so many things a nuisance, we
do riot see why they cannot touch
the habit of spitting or. the pave
ment. Before the walks were pav
ed it was not so noticeable or
seemingly so prevalent. Now the
pavements are filthy, unhealthy
obnoxious, especially to
ladies, who must either drag their
skirts through or pick their way.
■The Sanitary Board should de
i mand that the pavements be
cleaned at regular intervals dur
I ing the day, if the filthy practice
I cannot be prohibited.
