Social News MOTHER'S DAY DINNER Mrs. Jennie Roberson was hon ored by her children on Mother's Day with a picnic dinner at her home. A delicious dinner of barbecue, ham, brunswick stew, chicken, sandwiches, cake and iced tea, was greatly enjoyed. Mrs. Roberson received many useful and lovely gifts which she opened and displayed. Approximately 150 attended the event, including Mrs. Susan Peel, an old friend who was the special guest. Mayo was hostess at a bridge party and shower at her home Thursday evening, compli menting Miss Vera Williams, bride-elect of June 19. The hostess presented Miss Wil liams a corsage of pink roses and sweet peas. The reception room was decor ated in a color scheme of pink and white, and arrangements of pink roses with white filler were placed about the room. CHURCH PROGRAM j The Hamilton 4-H Club con ducted a 4-H religious program in I the Hamilton Baptist Church Sun | day. | The invocation was given by Lela Hollis. Following this, Mary House welcomed the congregation and outlined the purpose of the service. Ray Thomas read the Scripture for the service. The “Evening Prayer” was sung by Hilton Harrell and Nance Scearce. Dick Raynor gave a poem, “I Would Be Great". The sermon was preached by Rev. E. R. Stew J art, pastor of the church. The , subject of his message was, “Bet j ter Living for a Better World j Calls for Faithfulness in Little | Things”. Colerain Spoils Finale For Local High School Nine Casteloe Sots Croon YTavo Dow n Willi Fivo Hits T » W in 12 to 1 Friilav A pretty good Colerain High School nine spoiled the season fin ale of the Green Wave baseball team of Williamston High School by defeating them 12 to 1 last Fri day night under the lights in the local park. Only three Green Wave batters wore able to get a safety off the slapts of Casteloe and it was only his wildness that cost him a shut out. Jack Ross and Jack Edwards got two hits apiece and Charles Carver got one to account for trl 1 the Green Wave Safeties. A hit by Ross after Carver had walked sent in the only local run in the last of the ninth inning as the cur tain was falling for this year's high school athletic program. The Colerain attack was launch ed without delay. Before Charles Carver, the starting hurler could get warmed up good the visitors had salted away six hits and six runs to chase him to centei field and bring Jerry Forehand to the* mound. Jerry managed to retire Here from Windsor Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Waters and .children of Windsor visited Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Gurganus here last week-end. Visiting Parents Miss Hattie Bailey is spending several weeks with her parents near Everetts. She will return to E. C. T. C., Greenville, June fi for summer school. Surprise Birthday Dinnei Mr. N. K. Harrison was given a surprise birthday dinner at the home of his brother and sister-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Harri son, in Poplar Point Sunday. Mr. Harrison said he had never seen so many candles in his life, that the huge cake was literally cover ed with candles. Returns from Chicago Mis. H. O. Jarman returned yesterday from Chicago where .she visited Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Jensen, and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Nagle for two weeks.
