The full skirt underlaid with silk lace was caught up in seal-, loped tiers with handmade orange blossoms and extended into a court train. Her veil of imported French illusion was draped fing ertip length and was held in place b\ a tiara of seed pearls. She wore as her only ornament, <* string of pearls which the mothei ot the groom wore on her wedding day She carried a white satin covered prayer book, gift of the groom, topped with a white pur ple throated orchid. Miss Thalia Pappas of Char lotte was maid of honor. She wore a gown of orchid marquisette over tissue faille with a matching pic tun hat and mitts. The guests were greeted at the front door by Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Whitehurst of Hobgood and the honorees, after which they as sembled in the living room and den. Lovely arrangements of jonquils, gladoli, and carnations were used throughout the home. As soon as the guests were as- j sembled, they were invited into j the dining room by Mr. and Mrs j Murray Whitehurst. The table, j covered with an imported linen cloth, was centered with an ar rangement of spring flowers in a crystal bowl which was flanked by white candles in candelabra. A, lovely bride doll scene decorat ed the spinet piano in the living room. A breakfast menu of sliced ham, scrambled eggs, hashed brown potatoes, orange marmalade, grape jam, hot butered rolls, and coffee was served buffet style. After serving themselves, the guests seated themselves at small tables which were arranged in the living room. These tables were centered with carnations and fern in bud vases. While describing this outfit, sev eral balloons, attached to the chandelier, were punctured, and confetti filled the room, where upon Miss Barrett was to.ld that this was a surprise event. Do zier, executive secretary of the! ■ University’s scholarship commit tee. Based on scholarship, leader ship and character, the award I amounts to $750 per academic ! year, with a maximum of $3,000 ! for a four-year period. j Miss Muse was one of nine— three girls and six boys—to earn the scholarship this year. Hun-, dreds from high schools through-; out the State competed for the, coveted awards, and selections | were made from 45 contestants in | the final examinations held at Duke last week-end. The scholarship is made possi ble by the Angier B. Duke Fund, and is one of the most attractive offered to North Carolina High school seniors. A similar scholarship was awarded to Zaek Piephoff, form er local school student and son of Rev. and Mrs. Z. T. Piephoff of Greensboro. To Present Play In Local School The Faculty of 1West Street High School will present the three-act comedy, "Aunt Martha Marcnes On," here Thursday eve ning in the Williamston Colored High School. This promises to bo one of the best assembly num bers ever to have been played be fore a Williamston audience. The cast of characters is made up of some of the best teachers in this area.
