Spring Practice Is Disappointing "Spring football practice was : failure as far as organization ir preparation for next fall is con corned,” Coach Stuart Maynarc said yesterday in commenting or work done at the athletic field it the past two weeks or so. He had Douglas Alexander anc Abb Williams from East Carolina who are doing their practici teaching in physical educatioi here, to help out in spring foot ball sessions and says that if hi had been able to get enough boy: ous the practices would have beer successful. The'coach hopes to get in a little football practice at the close o! the baseball season. Although there were as many as 30 boys out in the early stage: of practice, Coach Maynard re ports only about 20 were out long enough do get anything out of the work. One of these, Buddy Fus sed. will not likely be here in the fall since his family expects to move to Dunn as soon as school closes here this year. Among those out for practice were Jimmy Myers. Harrell Ev erett. Joe Robertson, Russell Rog 'ers, Watson McKeel, David Davis, Billy Bob Peel, George Harris, Wilbur Edwards, Reginald Col train, Ben Andrews, Samuel Hopewell, Ward Perry, Buddy Fussell, Hugh Lindsley, Randolph Coker, Ottis Whitaker, Theodore Bowen. Robert Chesson, and Tur ner Manning. • Green Wave Nine Busy in Practice —»— With only four regulars from last year s team back this spring, Coach Stuart Maynard is busy trying to get himself a 1950 Green Wave baseball team at Williams ton High School. Catcher Bobby Carter, Pitcher Charles Carver, Infielder Jack Edwards and Joe Robertson are the only regulars hack from last year and the coach must finish his team from 16 inexperienced recruits which have been coming out for practice with regularity. The team last year wound up with a pretty good season, run ning into trouble only against Hertford’s Indians but this yeahV will be playing under a different setup in the Albemarle Confer MR. CAVALIER Tall, handsome and dressed in a costume representing one of the most romantic periods in history, Mr. Cavalier, portrayed by Mr. Tom White of Richmond, visited 1 here this week, heading a friendly force of several automobiles, bearing banners heralding R. J. 1 Reynolds Tobacco Company's new king-size Cavalier cigarettes. While here he mixed with the people in the business districts and dispensed complimentary cigarettes. Accompanied by A E. Frazier, of Goldsboro, the Cava lier made quite a hit, especially with the ladies. The Cavalier cig arette is made principally from 1 bright leaf tobaccos. cnee and must meet every team in the conference at least twice. A j schedule of 10 conference games is thus assured, the opening con test being against Ahoskie on Fri jday, March 31. The complete baseball schedule will be announced next week and it may be possible that a line on i who will hold a spot on the team can be had by that time. Besides the four regulars from last year, boys reporting for prac tice in baseball include, Royce Ward, Johnny Woolard, James iColtiain, Jack Welch, Raymond Davis, Bobby Clayton, Hyman Edwards, J. D. Hi^ies, Harrell Ev erett, Dallas Wells, Watson Me WRS*A,‘"‘Cfferles Griffin, Buddy Fus sefl, Jimmy Myers, Pritchard i Lindsley and Edward Ward. I STOP DM! WHAT'S THE BIS IOTA?
