Miss Wood Weds
Geo. L. Roberson
Miss Norma Rae Wood, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Tilghman
Phipps Wood, became the bride of
Geprge Lee Roberson, son of Mrs.
Theo Roberson and the late Mr.
Roberson, in a candlelight cere
mony Friday afternoon at five
o'clock in the First Meihodist
Church here. The Rev. R. E. Wal
ston, pastor of the bride, officiat
Prior to the' ceremony a pro
gram of r.upnal music was pre
sented by Mrs. R. P. Monteith,
organist, and Mrs." M. Stewart
Davis, Jr., soloist.
The bride, given away by her
father, wore a gown of white slip
per satin designed with a tight J
fitting bodice buttoned to the1
, waistline in the back with tiny
i self covered buttons and a deep
off-shoulder net yoke. Her full
1 satin skirt fell from a pointed
j waistline and extended into a
cathedral train. A shoulder length
wedding veil of French illusion
was attached to a white satin cap.
Miss Wood carried a white Bible
topped with a purple throated
white orchid and showered with
white satin streamers.
Miss Rhoda Faye Peele was
n.aid of honor and the bride's on
ly attendant. Sh° wore a gown of
yellow taffeta styled with a fitted
bodice and a bouffant skirt Her
flowers were a nosegay of yellow
chrysanthemums
Mr.- /jipke Parker served as t'r
groom’s best man ushers were
Mr. D. L. Roberson, brother of
the gioom, and Mr. John Miller,
Jr.
Mrs. Wood, mother of the bride,
wore a black dress and a corsage
of red roses. The groom’s mother,
Mrs. Roberson, wore a purple
dress and had a corsage of yellow
roses.
Immediately alter the ceremony
the bride and groom received in
the vestibule of the church after
which they left for a wedding trip
to unannounced points.
Cake Cutting
Following the wedding rehear
sal on Thursday evening, the bri
dal party, relatives and friends
were entertained at a cake cut
ting given by the bride's parents
and the groom's sister, Mrs. J. B.
Barnhill, Jr , in the dining .oom
of the church.
Mrs. Barnhill and Mrs. J. B.
Glenn served coffeee, cake, mints
and nuts to those attending.
Linen-Slower

bride-elect, at a floating shower
at her home on U. S. Highway 17,
on November 24, from 7:30 till
9:00 F. M.
Upon arrival, the honoree, Miss
Wood, was presented a corsage
of carnations.
The guests were served hot
chocolate, donuts, open faced
sandwiches, mints and nuts.
Miss Wood received many beau
tiful and useful gifts.
Approximately 12 guests called
during the evening.
Canasta Party
Mrs Clyde Ward and Miss Ber
nice were joint hostesses at a ca
nasta party on November 26 hon
oring Miss Norma Rae Wood,
bride elect of December.
On arrival, Miss Wood was pre
sented a white carnation corsage.
The guests were first served
ice cream and cake. Each place
was marked with minature cor
sages for each of the guests and
each of the thiee tables were
lighted by burning candles. The
house was decorated throughout
; with white chrysanthemums. Af
ter refreshments, canasta was en
| joyed.
Miss Wood was presented a
piece of silver in her chosen pat
tern by the hostesses.
Floating Shower
Mrs J. B. Glenn entertained
Tuesday afternoon, December 11,
from 3:00 to 5:30 P. M. at a float
ing shower honoring Miss Noi ma
Rae Wood, bride-elect of Decem
ber 14.
The house was thrown en suite
for the occasion, the living room
being very effective with arrange
ments of white pine and cedar,
reflected in tall lighted white tap
ers.
Upon arrival, the honoree was
presented a corsage of white cai

Mrs. J. B. Barnhill, Jr., sister
of the groom, presided at the
punch bowl, serving lime punch,
and Mrs. Jessup Harrison, assist
ed by Mrs. Johnnie Rawls, served
individual cakes, mints and as
sorted nuts.
Mrs. C. T. Roberson invited the
guests into the den, where the
many lovely gifts were displayed.
Christmas: decorations were used
in this room.
Mrs. I). L. Roberson presided
over the register. Approximately
seventy-five guests called during
the appointed hours.
