JamesviUe Club Molds- Meeting *—#— The JamesviUe Woman's Club held it’s February meeting Tues day evening m the club building. The President, M« Edgar Brown, presided over a short business ses sion before the program. The American Home Depart ment, with Mrs. F. A. Rawles as chairman, gave a very interest ing program. It was a "Fashion Revue" given by the Home Eco nomics girls under the direction of Miss Eiise High, the Home Eco nomic teacher. After the Revue, the hostesses Mrs. V. b. Hairr, Mrs. Joe Hol liday, Mrs. A. J. Holliday Sr., and Mrs. J. C. Kirkman served from a beautifully appointed table punch, cookies, nuts, and mints: depicting the Valentine motif. After the guests retired, the fol lowing officers were elected for the coming year: Mrs. Carl Grif fin, President, Miss Esta Martin, vice president; Mrs. Garland An derson, Jr., Secretary; and Mrs. A. Valentine's Day Despite popular conceptions in various sections of the country, there is no general agreement as to the origin of St. Valentine’s Day as we observe it today. Per haps the most logical explanation of how the name Valentine came to be connected with a day on which lovers send tokens to one another lies in its connection with a prevalent belief in Europe in the Middle Ages. Literature of this period, begin ning about Chaucer’s time, shows that the popular conception was that the hints begun to mate on February 14th. Thereafter, Eng lish literature frequently men tiuns the day as a sacred one foi lovers. This was how the day wa> connected with lovers. The nanit itself could have come from eith er of three great Valentines. One was a priest in Rome, an other a bishop in Terni, and ; third of which very little i; known.
