Speaking of foot ball, there have been so many deaths from the this fall that numbers of colleges are abolishing it, while a ceaseless agitation is being kept up by the press looking to ward an elimination of the dan gerous features. The game, with ? f x ?ii i.i a lew mocun cations, win continue to be played, for it is a game that develones. strengthens, and trains, both physically and mor ally, a greater number of men than any other game. Tomorrow is a day set apart by the Church and Nation as a time for giving thanks to a be nign Father for the many bless ings vouchsafed to us. All over this broad land, the people will assemble in their respective places of worship and properly observe the day. So many look upon Thanksgiv ing Day as merely a holiday and a time when especially good din ners are served. They lose, for they never think, of the true sig nificance of the Day. first and foremost, they should be deeply thankful that another year has been added to their lives, and should therefore give due credit to the great Accountant And then they should think of the bountiful harvests that they have been blest with, arid all the m numerable benefits and blessings that He has seen fit to give them Our side of the Ledger is pretty full; are we doing our best to keep the corresponding credit j- . , ?. in 1 1 wue on a paniy : 11 Denooves us ii - - a . .. . . all, therefore, to give thanks to- morrow and face the comine year with even better resolutions. He travelled more miles, and preached more sermons for less remuneration, than perhaps any Pastor in the Sandy Creek Association: and did it cheerfully "as unto the Lord." How sreat is one whose fault is to be com mended! We shall hardly see his like again. Resolved further t That we heartily commend his life to all as an exemplification of the truth "Seek first the King dom of God and His no-hteous- ness and all these things shall be added unto you." Notwithstand ing his vears of sacrifice for the Gospel's sake being a poor man j and hardly able to provide for his own household vet God a bundantly kept his promise, in that through and by His Provi dence, Brother Smith was enabled to raise his family into God-fear ing men and women, and leaving them what would have heen ps- teemed a competence in his own early Jite.
