I i SOCIAL NEWS; a Mr, Eugene Whitehead motored to Snow Hill last evening to attend a dance and returned thisjnorning, be ing the guest this week of Mr. Au brey Shackell. Billie Burke, the favorite screen artist, will be seen in the leading role on "Away Goes- Prudence," at the Opera House tonight. Dr. E. C. Hornbeck, of Rocky Mt., was here today on professional bus iness and will meet engagements again on Friday afternoon. ,'. The Christian church has secured the services of Dr. J. J. Taylor for an evangelistic meeting, beginning about October first. Dr. Taylor is from Lexington, Ky., and comeS with the reputation of a very noted evang elist. . The steam laundry, back of Hotel Farrar, has been delayed in its open ing because of the' connections for power, but we are informed it will be running full blast by Monday, The funeral of Mr. Ferdinand Sta ton takes place at three o'clock this afternoon, tCie cortege going from the house of Mr. N.
