Children are not allowed out in the streets of Norway after dark. . They aren't giving away any cider apples in the rural districts now. Six months ago the consumers were standing in line to get -sugar. Now the sugar speculators are standing in line at the banks to borrow money. This campaign is nip and tuck. With a nipping frost due for some candi dates that could be named, and many political workers tucking the goods away in their inside pockets. Orators are not as popular as for me, ly, as what the voters' demand is less silver tongues and more brass tacks. . Up to date it does not seem likely that anyone can get elected merely, by putting his lithographed picture in every store window. THE STORE WITH A MESSAGE. Some merchants will tell you that their rtock is just as good as anyone else has. Others are not satisfied to have just an average -and ordinary . service. They, have a confident faith that they give something mote than ordinary. A store of that kind is usually an advertising store. ' Such a Confidence is not tattl bluff. When a man . sets himself a 'standard of superiority, he is determined to . live up to it. He is not satisfied to have just what everybody has. He sets out to study all the ins and outs of the market situation. He works hard to find goods and secure values t at shall be better than ordinary. When therefore yen read an' ad vertisement of some business in Tht ' Southerner you read the statement of the mkn who believes in his goods, and is determined to gtv so girthing .that is above the average vatae. A store of that kind is the tost place to do business, because it will -go the limit to make good its claim.
