DIED. -
At the home of his parents yester
day after a two weeks' illness of co
litis, Henry Graham, son of B. M.
and Jennie M. Bass, aged 7 months.
From the very first the disease was
of a malignant form and albeit the
little one had the best medical skill,
the tendcrest nursing, and he, him;,
self made a gallant resistance, yet
;he ravages of the disease could not
oe stayed and he fell a victim.
He was a lovely baby, handsome,
winsome, and the joy and pride of
lis fond parents. He was just a bud
cransplanted to another clime, while
ts petals were yet tinged with heav
.n'a dew. Another little cooing voice
has joined the cherub choir for it is
written,
"Of such is the kingdom of heaven."
Funeral services will be held from
;he home this afternoon at 5 o'clock,
conducted by Rev. B. E. Bvo-vr., and
che little one will be UiSrHy kii
.o rest by the side of his forefather,'
in Calvary churchyard.
The sympathy of the community
?oes out to the sorrowing.
UNABLE TO ANSWER.
The Edgecombe County Health
Department is at present unable to
.nawer the perfectly legitimate ques-,
:ion propounded in the Southerner
oncerning the number of flies in our ,
leighborhood. We are, however, con
Juclins investigations and are work-.
ng out a plan, which with the coope
ration of citizens, we hope will be
juecessful in ridding our town in a
Urge measure of these harmful' and
annoying insects. Director Health.'
Manly Llewellyn NerouS.
Manly Llewellyn, the University of
N'orth Carolina pitcher, was rushed
:nto the pit of pitchdom for the N.
t". Yanks against Cleveland on Sun
lay after Waite Hoyt and 'Murray,'
jnother Carolina product, were hit
,ff the mound. But Llewellyn was a
little "nerveless" and hence the In
dians kept up their hitting.
BASEBALL SIDELIGHTS,
Rocky Mount Telegram.
With the Tar Heels resting at tht
top of the percentage column it is
rather one of the fates of baseball
.hat they should be away from the
local ball lot for the entire week.
However, any ball club that is in one,
;wo, three position at this season of
,he year has a place that entitles
:hem to be regarded as a winner and
s such should receive the approval
A its supporting fans. The crowds
luring the Richmond series were not
ill that might have been expected
even though it was bettor than had
been t previous engagements. There
!s no mistaking the fact that the ball
rlub murt have support if it is to con
:inue s a pastime for Rocky Mount
"and. this support must come througl
attendance at the games. When th
Tar Heels et back next week, ii
would rot be out of place if the part
might be packed, packed even to the
."xtent that search had to be made to
find a seat, for that's the sort of at
tendance a winning club deserves.
