Hay man returned f Monday from Washington where be had been on business con nected with securing a patent on his boat, The Slide which reMitly won all first honors at Manteo. The Slide is the fastest boat in the world for her size and horse power. She makes thirty or thirty-five miles an hour with a 27 horse power engine. Mrs. K. L. Sawyer entertained at Kook Wednesday evening in honor of Mrs. It. M. Bailey's guest, Mrs. Charles Barnard of Potwells Point. The invitation was accepted, anl nine o'clock Tuesday morn ing -Inly Pith was agreed upon as the time for meeting. At the time set the crowd as sembled at tht United States Life Saving Station on Water street, he'e Mr. and Mrs. Lof tin the cliaM'rons joined and toot charge of tht crowd. At nine iiirty the boat, the Hllu J., was u-eady and the crowd was ready for it. After a pleasant ride of about an hour they arrived at the creek the girls with dinner and the boys with bathing suits, two canoes, HuTee pw lxats and a fishing boat. Immediately after landing most of the Ih.vs got into Iwith. ing suits and either began to help Mr. I if tin and the fish ermen or to enjoy themselves in the water . After two or three1 hauls the tishetnnon and bathers came in for dinner, which was served on a large tablet, every one gathering around and look ing out for himself. The afternoon was sjKMit in fishing,, irowing, bathing or sit ting on the beach and talking, every body choosing his own diversion. One of the events of the evening (which somebody said was the best thing he saw while down there excepting the dinner) was the overturn ing of a canoe occupied by Mr Ilryan Venters. The water was shallow however, and the only result was i good wetting for Mr. Venters. At six-thirty the Ella .1. ap eared, and the ,iiowd was called together to return to Elizabeth City. Every body was in splendid spirits and said they had enjoyed the oc casion extremely. The return voyage was eeciallv enjoyable as a cod lureeze was blowing and 'the sun was hidden by the overhanging tree topsi. They arrived in this city about half past seven, a happy crowyl of bovsi and cirls.
