Small was present and ad dressed the Commissioners in be half of the appropriation as did a':so' Kev. C. A. Ashby and Mrs. Camden W. Melick. The Com missioners, however, were unmoved by the logic of their Congressman, by the eloquence of one of the city's most popular preachers, or by the forceful plea of Mrs. Melick. This is the last month that the county had to secure the appropria tion, but friends of the movement have assured Congressman Small that the moLjy would be raised and he said that he would take their word for it assuming responsibility for the amount asked for, so that the Federal Department would have something definite to act upon and would go ahead just as if the ap propriation had been made here. THANKSGIVING SERVICES IN CURRITUCK To The Advance: May I say a few words through your paper concerning our Thanks giving contributions; On frhanks glving we held a Joint service in the Baptist church in Moyock. The Methodist brethren and sisters worshiped with us. We raised $55.00 and this amount was equally divided, giving to each Orphanage $27.50. We think this did woll for Moyock, considering the hard - times At Shady Grove we raisea $15.00 and $33.75 at Rehoboth. We are getting along very nicely with the work; I believe the people are united in heart, and when God's people stand shoulder to shoulder something will be accomplished for God and humanity. We have only a few members here at Moyock, but they do things when they are shown it Is for the advancement of the Masters Kingdom. I know of no church as weak financially as our little band here that contribute more per member. We gave fifty cents per member for State Mis sions this year, and we hope to do better next. Our good sisters "have just organized a Missionary Society, so we expoct great things of them next year. Our Sunday School is, open all the year, they know nothing of winter quarters as they do in some sections. N. P. STALLINGS SOCIAL LIFE AT MANTEO Manteo, N.
