The ed tor is no more nearly perfect than the millions of other morta s who inhabit the earth and a paper that's run iv an editor Is likely to make mistakes sometimes in what goes into the paper, some times in what Is left out, or again in some position taken or not tak en. When you think The Advance errs In any pointy you aro inv ted to point us to our fault. We like to know whether our readers are for us or against us on any issue. The Un ted States Department of Commerce counsels the saving of waste pHper and rags as a remedy for the shortage of raw material for the manufacture of paper. Those . who heed the advice of the govern ment in this matter will not only be paid for their trouble but will help to al eviate a situation becom ing dally more serious Perhaps charity workers may-find' in the ex traordinary value of material which Is usually wasted a .suggestion, ... An out of town friend dropped in to pay us a dollar last week. We reminded him that it was only a few months ago thaf he had mailed us a dollar extending his subscription in to 1917. "All right", he said "make it 1918 unlts you can think of somebody that needs Uv'b dollar more than you do." We took the do'lar and blessed the friend. If jou have oaly a, few trees on your farm there should be special precautions taken to prevent d' states and insects. In order that you may have non-infected fruit for your home consumption instead of an infer'or grade, which we real ize is detrimental to health. Spraying hns become necessary because of the great numbers of In sects and plant diseases which prey on our local forest trees, so numerous have these pests become, and bo certain is their destruction that it is impossible to control them without the proper use of Bpray material. Frequently several acres of or thard will hardiy produce enough fruit for family use, when a couple of dozen trees well cared for would allow a margin of profit after pay ing all expenses of cultivation, pruning and spraying, and supply ing the family as well. The un creel for orchard Is not only an expense to Its owner, but also a menace to other orchards near by. Insects and diseases multiply among the tinsprayed trees and are literal y sown broadcast over nelghtoring orchards. So each owner will not be the only one benrfiit'ed by spraying, but. each surrounding ne'ghbor. No work In the orchard during tho ent're season Is more impor tant, and no work cnlls for more care and patience than the mixing of spray material. The protec tion afforded by Spray correctly made of reliable materials is of the greatest value to the grower, but a carelessly made mixture of poor material may cause a serious loss. Therefore every person Intending to Bpray should be sure and have the desired quantity of each pro duct in tho right proportion. In preparing mixture Tor Spraying fruit trees' at this time of the sea son, I fhall advise you to use the Uordeatix mlxtur. 'ncluditig Arse nate of lead. In the following preparation use three pounds (3 lb) Two pounds of Copper sulphate initio Stone) (2 PO and n ne pounds of quick lime with fifty i.'a'lons of water.
