Wilkes returned Saturday from a visit to Washington, Baltimore and Mew York. Miss Elizabeth Bryan, of Greenville, is spending some time with the Misses Burnette, on Hammond street. Mrs. W. L. Thorpe and son, Master William, went to Richmond. Va., Tues day to spend several days visiting. Mr. R. L. Huffines went to Spring Hope Monday to settle some fire losses, which occurred there last week: Mr. (J. Q. Potter, of Washington, D. C., was the guest of Mr. R. H. Bur nette, in the city, Wednesday night. * Mr. J. J. Rogers, superintendent of agencies of the North State Mutual Life Insurance Co., of Kinston, was in city Friday. Miss Gladys Pender, of Williamston, after a visit to her friend, Miss Jose phine Rowland, in the city, returned home Monday. Editor M. W. Lincke, of The Nash ville Graphic, was a visitor in the city Saturday, ana paid The Record office a very pleasant call. Mr. Smith, of the firm of Smith"& Baker, left Monday morning for the northern markets to purchase additional spring stock for their large establish ment. Our readers' attention is called to the city clerk's statement of reccipis and disbursements for February published elsewhere in this issue. This is a mat ter of interest to all the tax payers and each month a statement will be publish lished, showing exactly for what the money received is expended. At Laurel Hill, in Madison county, Miss Parsedena Shelton shot and se rious y wounded her rival for a man's affection, Miss Ida Franklin, and then escaped across the State line into Ten nessee but was later arrested. Miss Shelton went to Miss Franklin's house to settle their differences and on being refused admittance fired through the door, one of the bullets taking effect in Miss Franklin's breast. Fire broke out in the passenger coach of a Southern train' between Raleigh and Goldsboro Sunday night and could not be extinguished with the apparatus on the train, so an exciting race into Goldsboro at a speed of 70 miles an hour was the only recourse. This was done and the fire put out when the train reached that place. Opera House Attractions For March. Manager Jno. L. Arlington announces some excellent attractions for the local theatre during the month of march, some that theatregoers can look for ward to with pleasant anticipation. Among the number are: "We are King," a drama of intricate plot and much humor, which will be presented by a strong company, here, March 12. On March 19th the Colonial Opera Company with 20 pretty girls will hold the boards, presenting "Martha," "Pinafore" and other well known features. The Lyman Twins in the "Yankee Drummer," supported by a larger and stronger company than ever, will be the attraction for March 27th, and this is sure to prove a popular play. NOTICE!
