Rutherfurd did not start fish ing this trial without due thought, investigation and preparation. Last Fall he came to Hatteras and en gaged a local spartfishing guide, with his locally built boat, to take him out to the Gulf Stream for an exhaustive study of the waters there. Upon finding plenty of jus tification for his theory that the marlin should be there Mr. Ruth erfurd left his well appointed yacht Mako II in Elizabeth City for the Winter and early in June returned to Hatteras with his guide and Cap tain Emil Eggimann. At Hatteras he picked up Lloyd Styron, local guide, and the Mako II put to sea. For ten days a diligent search was made for marlin in the waters pre viously investigated.
