C. Gibbs of Columbia spent Wednesday night and Thursday morning in Manteo. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Biggs an nounce the birth of a son, Thomas Oiho, on Saturday, July 16. R. Bruce Etheridge of Raleigh,' visited his family here last week end. Miss Cleo Sumner, of Conway, was a visitor in ilanteo Monday. She is spending sometime with friends at Nags Head. STRANGER RESCUES FOUR FROM WATER THEN DEPARTS Roanoke Island looked around Tuesday for a stranger upon which it wished to confer its solemn thaiiks and set down his name for a Carnegie medal, but couldn’t find him. 'The last trace it could get of him was at the local ABC store where he appeased shaken and dis traught and without knowledge enough of brands to tell Jerry Parker what it was he wanted. This stanger, middle aged, saved four people from downing early last ni^t at the second bridge ov er Roanoke Sound. He was fishing from the bridge when he saw three grandchildren of Guthrie Mill- gett, and W. W.. Ballowe sink for a third time in the dee, channel of Roanoke Sound. He ^ved in and brought them to safety and in the ensuing excitement slipped away. Passing by at the time was S. A.
