W. F. Beadle. Prophesies are still extant. The writer will be bold enough to make one in the face of much slanty op position. Highlands, N. C., will have but one church. It will not be named by any of the present churches. It will be of the people, for the com munity and for God. I say this knowing that it might mean min isterial suicide. My reasons are these: The constituents of the various churches have not enough denomi national conviction and rightly so. What is too present is too much denominational prejudice. The parishoners possess friendly Godli ness which runs counter to the ad herence of religious restrictions in regard to segregation. The authorities of the various churches are adhering to teir re ligion? obligations by keeping not alive but open the few places of worship that have bren by tradi tionalism “opened” through the years. The livelihood of the many min isters is- not sufficient to keep his head embowed in the face of his many creditors. To ■ live on less brings a condemnation on “that is our minister,” which eventually becomes so overwhelming that even religious < convictions wane and waver. . The annual festival of figures of the consummation of all the pastors report show no substantia tial increase in such localities but a holding on, alone that, thank God such a hold is fast losing its grip, and soon a curch member will be able to invite a visitor to attend the community church where even new members will be welcomed without an anathema of religious jealousy. Finally it will be an answer to Christ’s own prayer, a pride of a united community and a step to* ward our expected religious Utopia. W. F. Beadle. HIGHLAND-er-er Mr. and Mrs. R. H.
