Men Called by The First Draft Will
be Notified by Mail But The Re

Of the 1400 young men of Pasquotank county registered
for service and subject to draft in the army of Uncle Sam only
69 wilMbe required to answer the first call to the colors. The first
step toward the selection of these 69 will be the calling before
the exemption board of the first 138 men listed under the draft
in this county. These may expect to be called upon to stand the
physical examination early next week. If Pasquotank's quota of
69 is not filled from the ranks of the first 138 summonel before
; the exemption board, other registrants will be called before the
( Jboard in the order listed until the required number is made up.
" Currituck will be required to furnish 53 men to the first
national army and therefore 126 registrants in Currituck may
expect the call to appear before the exemption boards.
Camden's quota to the nation's first army is 37, and in
Jthat county 74 men will be required to appear for examination
lef ore the exemption board.
Perquimans will be required to furnish 87 under the first
draft and in that county 164 will be summoned before the ex
emption board for examination.
Only 30 men are to be drafted from Pare county. Sixty,
there! ore, may expect the call to appear before the exemption
, board for examination. - . -
Tyrrell county is required to provide 38 men for the first
raft and in that county 76 will be summoned before the exemp
tion board for examination.
Gates county's quota is 78, with 156 to be ordered before
the exemption board for examination.
Washington county, the apportionment of which was 83
lias a credit of 33, leaving 50 to be drafted into service on the
first call. One hundred is the number in Washington, therefore,
that will be first summoned before the" exemption board for examination.
Those who are to be called under the first draft will be ;
notified to that effect bv mail: but the Government. emnhnaispJ
the fact that the responsibility for knowing the order of call lies
upon eachh registrant. Officials advise each man to check him
self in his own district and find at once in what order his num
ber has been drawn.
Those who are only a little way down the list below the
last ma who will be summoned before the exemption board
next week should be especially on the alert, as thev are likely
to be called if the proportion of exemptions in their county is
larger than the average. The Government estimates that of
every two men called one will be taken. But it is important to
note carefully that if any county's quota is not filled when the
first men called out have been examined, more will be called out,
in the order listed until the required number of men is obtained.
, The following names and numbers arc listed in the order
in which thev were drawn at Washine-ton Thr.
v O --w .vuvhJi V J . , 4
Pasquotank county only; but the numbers apply to any county
me registration roll ol which numbers not more than 1400 men.
For instance, the first number drawn was 258. That number in!
Pasquotank means James White but in Currituck, Camden, Per-1
quimans, Dare, Tyrrell or Gates it means the man whose regis
tration card bears the number 258. He will be the first man to 1
be examined by the exemption board of his county. j
The following numbers are not yet complete. Every
name listed in your county has been drawn. But unless your ,
name appears on the following list you may be reasonably cer-'
tain that you will not be called under the first or even the second '
draft. '
The list as it appears today has been corrected and revis-'
d as far as it goes. The names will be held in type and this pap
er will not rest until ithas the complete roll for Pasquotank
showing every man in the county the exact order in which he is
liable to call. I
The War Department has ordered all recruiting officers 1
to refuse to enlist drafted men for any branch of the service aft-'
er mey are summoned for physical examination by the local ex
emption boards.
Men at tie top of the list now have only a few more days iv
which they may volunteer.
