Well, we suppose that we've seen the last of daylight sav ing. : The Advance is thank ful for two summers of it any way. witn tne coal situation as serious as it now appears it would seem that Bess City is fortunate in still having some a a. . remnant of its municipal wood yard. Greensboro's area is hardly more than that of Elizabeth City, but Greensboro's streets oh Saturday look like Elizabeth City's on the Fourth, of July. .And we just havn't got the heart to compare the two towns in hotels and news ; papers. Thee'8 talk from organized labor of enlisting tHe aid of the farmer in "fighting but the life and death struggle of the workers now in progress." If The Advance knows anything about farmers there's a natter that will never get any further than talk. s The Advance almost wishes that it had been the New York dailies instead of the maga- . zines that were tied up by the printers' strike.. These New York dailies have been trying to hog up til the newsprint in sight ano; they have bulled the price to a figure that's likely to spell ruination to many a small publisher. The New York Times seems to be the chief sinner. ; The story of Maynard's flight across the continent now appearing in the News and Observer isJ good reading. His achievement marks an other great victory in the con : quest of the air and hastens the day when each city will have its landing field for flying craft just as now it has a freight and passenger station for railway traffic. But why not provide this landing field for Elizabeth City . before Ut gets to be the. regular thing? Hand it to Crisp of ' Dare. His argument for the landing of the NC-4 at Manteo moved the very stars in their courses to fight for him. And it is hard for The Advance to be lieve that the Crisp eloquence of the appeal from Dare had not moved the hard heart of Reed himself. The fact that weather conditions conspired to bring the NC-4 down' at the very point where Crisp .had urged that she land is one 'of the most remarkable , coinci dences of history. The prospect . of coal shortage this winter, makes one sigh for a country cot and its well stocked wood yard. Elizabeth City's parking or dinance is giving some trouble in that the ordinance provides that the car shall be parked so as not to take up the street more than twelve feet from the .curb. The result is that when a number of cars are parked alqng a street a car in the middle of the block can not get out until 'the' car in front of or behind it it moved. This difficulty, might be over come and at the same time more of the street be left open for traffic if it were required that cars should be parked parallel with the curb and at intervals of twelve or fifteen feet. . i - .
