Jimrny Catlett and his string band added to the program with a number of hill-billy songs climaxing his portion with the VBoll Weevil Fonr" Little M: Jses Pat Duncan and Linda Mitchiner, accompanied by Mrs. Charles Gul ley. did a tap dance in gay green and white costumes. The Harmony Four composed of Helen Allen Jimmy Turner, Her man Moore and Raeford Under wood and accompanied by Audrey Ragland rendered several gospel songs. They were followed by Dwight Blinson who played a piano solo. A quartette from the Cleveland High school glee club sang selec tions from "Maytime." These young ladies who had been on the stage for other programs herei .were accompanied by Mrs. Charles Gulley who teaches music and voice in the Clayton and Cleveland schools. daughter, Mrs. P. G. Greer and family. - Mrs. Rosa . Bridges is a patient at Duke Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Creech and family spent the week end at Topsail Beach. Mr. and Mr3. Rex Lee, Mr. and Mrs. VPelma Blinson attended $he Blinson - Dalton wedding in Dur ham Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Bill Thorne has returned home from Johnston Memorial hos pital. Mr, and Mrs. William Bagley of Greenville visited friends and rela tives over the week end. Mrs. Zeb Austin has returned to her home after a two weeks visit 'in Colerain. Ahoskie and Como. iShe also visited with friends in Williamsburg while away. Mrs. Joyce B. Williams of Oak Ridge visited with her sister, Mrs. ! John T. Talton, Sr., here last week. Misses Mary Whitley and Grace j Talton of Williamston spent the past week - end in Clayton. Ends Second Phase Of Six-month Tour At Indiana Post Pvt. James H. Ellerbe, whose wife, Helen, lives at 341 Lombard St.. Clayton completed the second phase of a six-month tour of duty Sept. 10 under the Reserve Forces Act program at Fort Ben jamin "Harrison, Ind. Ellerbe terminated a period of enlisted finance training after hav ing completed basic combat train ing at Fort Knox, Ky. The 23-year Kld soldier was graduated from Bast Carolina College in 1956. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Ellerbe, live in Rockingham. VJfcoQlojr CompIoJcs Fiire Control Course -With Army In Korea Pvt. Dewey E. Wheeler, ' whose wife, Sara; lives on Route 1, Knightdale, recently completed the fire direction control course at the I Corps Non-Commissioned Officer Academy in Korea. Wheeler was instructed in the fundamentals of computing map data and plotting artillery fire. He entered the Army in November 1956 and arrived in the Far East in July of this year. The 18-year-old soldier is a 1956 graduate of Slayton High School. His mother, Mrs. Emma L. Whee ler, lives in Calyton. Women To Have Concession Stand The Clayton Junior Woman's club will have a "Chuck Wagon" concession stand at the Johnston County Fair starting Tuesday Sept. 24. through the 28th. Hot dogs, sandwiches, drinks, home - made pies, cookies and cokes will be sold. Corbett of Clayton, is presently serving as secretary in the Raleigh Veterans Administration office, whose director is Marion Killian (right). A Superior Performance Award was recently made to the Raleigh office by A. W. Tate (left), acting manager of VA for the state. Si VA Benefits Are Extended An estimated 12,000 widows of veterans may be eligible for Vet erans Administration benefits be cause of a recently enacted law liberalizing the definition of "widow." Public Law 85-209, provided the change, VA said. Under the new law, the date of her marriage to the veteran will not disqualify a widow for VA benefits if a child was born of the marriage or, if no child was bom, the marriage existed for at least five years.
