These exirn call on her labor, and want of appreciation of them, had only been mad. since hi acquaintance with n ce tain Mid- M . He was continually praising her as one of the most angelic beings in existence, perfectly bcauiilul, wilh the sweetest little hand, no croad r than three of his finger, and to white and no soli ; and he would glance, involuntarily at his sister's hanl. which was not so very amnll and while ; and how could it be when "he had to ctaud for hours at the ironing table, btsi h s sweeping, dueling a ud making beds in fart leading an active and useful life. Yet the comp.ui auu wogld hurt her feelings, and she often wished he would not talk to her of Mi& . for she kiM;w if she had done her duty her I hands would not be so very eoli and white. for he had seen her mother scrubbing down the eityf and washing the yard, ulthongh Hrry had tohl her M:ss M eaid her -.Ma bad defavyte health." J The more the young m in thousiht of Miss : M the less he eemed to care for Liz- j zie. and the. more he as'ed her to do for him. ' And no matter how much she toiled, he nev er had time to do the slightest for her. sj oc- copied was he with hiscouriship :o hi-; angel, j Now. lo let you into the secret. Miss M-- J had something to do with this. She had learn- rd the. character of his devoted sister, and i fanidher lover would expect some'h:ng like it from his wife. So she had wearied him from her porpbaety ; and from the very cause thai should have made him think more of her. he actually thought less. He had unconsciously imhibv-d the very common idea ill il soil hand and fine airs were indispensable iu making a Judy. II's sister nit being either, he lei' a little ashamed of her; not viths'av.diag '..it knowledge of her sound sense and true hear:. He was too much in 1 ive wilh a pretty face to reflect if he performed the duties called for by iheir circumstances, it would b im possible ibr his lady-love to do so. They were very well performed, however, by her mother, who was somewhat ailing, it is Irut. When at last the young man married lu angel, though Lizzie shed tears at the sepa ration, her labor certainly were considerably lightened, and her hands had a better chance o becoming efi. She loved her brolher. nd like a ti ue woman, hoped he would be cry happy, and hat his wife would keep 1 1 mi nice. This had been her especial pride. ; itnW every wife ought to rousidrr it a duly. 13 at when, iu a very li'tlc lime, she saw him wearing soiled vests and crumpled bosoms, shn very easily knew to whom the blame be longed. He begau to look frowning, and peak etosa and frowning, and al length was -taken very sick. When Li.zie went lo see Jiinr. he begged her so hard to iay and give him some "i e.il old time nursing." Sh now learned thnt angels gel very lirrd waiting on fretlul ' sick people, who have been spoil ed" by too much attention al home. They were enough to "kill one with fatigue," Ami how many cross looks the Mister while attending quietly 1'Ul constantly lo Jier brother' wants. And the anei determined to sit up with dim. only ying ilown to take a short nap which hisied alt night. With Ilii xperieac.e. Lizzie thought that vtumen make consUleiahly belter wives than angels. A man named Boissouneau was tried by the tribunal of correctional police, iu Paris. n Thurkl.iy Ibr a very ingenious, though Hfcey credible, species of robbery. He one day went to a pastry cook and said, ' I nhnll, require to-morrow 400 brioches" (a sort of bun.) " They shall be got ready, sir." re iplied the pastry rook, after having asked for tiis name and addressj. He then went lo a H'hI(I) maker oppoaite. and selectej a watch of 2601'. On this)., the watch maker Unsuspectingly allowed him to walk off wfth the watch, but to his profound aa lonishmentT there arrived the next day vH 300C bat 200 brichem. The trick was- then discovered. Nothing was seen of the man until & few day ago, when he was recog nised by the pastry, cook'e , boy, . dressed in grotesque style, and selling pencils in the toidst of a crowd. . At the reqriest of the court she made the following plain statement, which in its delivery exhibited the true feeling of n mother, ami Ybe sad duty she was compelled to perfrfta:-. '1 came to this city in '39, where I bave resided ever since. In 1842 1 wu mar ried to Elisha Ret tick, who, en aeeount of his dissolute habits and a refasal to main lain bis family, I procured a divorce in June, 1853, since which time t hare not seen j:m, nor uo 1 know where' he is. I have had four children, one dead and three living; these two boys and a, Hlile girl u bout six years of age. I reside on Mill near Fourth street; I huve no ir cans of sup port but my needle. I have tried to raise my children as ihey should be raised' but whenever il is possible the two boys run away and ine oldest on wilt take ihintrs fi on the neighbors 1 hufe feul ihem to he Fourth fctrtet School, ahd instead if filing, they are enntituitilly phying irum i I liavi- done nil I coui-i, kl,(T en II tlo Ii more, i wuuhl wi-llrrigfy iVppori und pr--vide fur them, but I earifiot erovrni tl in Judges, uit is hard for ate to prt iih them, but their interests compel me lo do it" Her narratfon was IU:ened to -with breathless attention by all in the Court room, and frequently the tears which ran down her cheeks evidenced her feelings within When she had eoncluded, the boys burst into tears, and the younger fain tly ejaculated, "Dear ma ! don't do it." Here followed a scene which beggars des cription. The mother sank into a chair and burst ;nto a flood of tears, while Ler two prodigal sons wept bitterly. Erery eye in the Court Room was moistened, and the Court, overcome, left the bench and paced the floor. The boys plead, but the mother replied in deep anguish, "My dear sons, it is too late;" and the scene became more and more affecting. After some minutes respite, the Court remarked that it was the most sad duty tbey ever had to perform separate a kind mother from her children but tbe task coakJ not be avoided. The boys were tbe a sentenced to be confined in tbe House of Refuge omit, discharged by da course of law.
