Supreme Court, in his charge to the Grand Jury of the Circuit Court at Boston, in allu sion to ihe resistance to law during the late fugitive slave case, proceeded to read the law of the United States by which any peisou who shall knowingly and wiltully resist any olricer of tne United Stales in the seivice of a lawful process, shall be, on conviction, impiis oned not more than twelve months, and fined not exceeding $ 300 ; and then in structed them concerning the kind and amount of participation which brings individuals within the compass of this law. The following is the conclusion of his remarks : 41 If is the imperative duly cf all of ns ciHtce rued, in the administration f the laws to see fo it that they are firm ly impartially and certainly applied to every offense, whether a particular law he by us individually approved or dis approved. And it lerotnes all to re member that forcible and concerted re sistance to any law is civil war, which can make no progress but through can have no teiniino,- uon but ihe destiuction oi the govern ment of our country or the ruin of those engage'! in such lesistance- It is not my province to comment on any events which have recently happened. They are. matters ol fact, which, so far as they are connected with the criminal law ol the U. S., are for your consideration. I leel no doubt that, as good citizens and lovcis of your country, and as conscien tious men you will well and tiuly ob serve and keep the oath you have taken, diligently to inquire and t.ue present ment make of all crimes and otlenses against the laws of the United States given you in charge." MORALS OP A N. Y. MERCHANT. S m years ago a manufacturer, car rying on rather an extensive business in a town, in Siratmoro, took it into his head that his affairs were all going " wronz, and, rather than (ace his e.redi- The Cincinnati Commercial tells the tors, he decamped one dav, and no one ' blowing singular story: "About six Uiipw to whfrft hp had yo'rte. leaving a i years ago, a gentleman from this city buxom wife and vouns family behind. ! kft for California, leaving behind him a Y -ars passed away, but there was no I wile, and a lot n. the western part tidings of the lost one. At last, after hoe had fled, a gentleman belonging to the same, town, happening to be in New York, and taking a stroll in Broad st., some person tapped him familiarly on the shoulder, and in a norian' accent asked him, " Hon things were deeing in the auld town." Instant recognition followed, but as it was impossible to dis cuss the affairs of the guid town of in a short time, au invitation was given by the runaway to dine at his country house, when, punctual to time, our tror land arrived at a snug little box a few miles from the city, his curiosi y excited to learn something more of its owner since his flight lie was not long left in susense, lor nis nosi eniereu me room with a lady, whom he introduced as his wife. Nor was this all the lady was accompanied by some sweet little pledges. Our norland felt at a loss what to think or say, for having seen the fi i st Mrs only a lew weeks befoie, but made no remarks, and the evening passed most agreeably of course, not the most distant allusion having been made during the whole time to the wife and pledges left in the country. Our runaway had surely leti his norian' prudence with his debts, or he might have foreseen that such on goings would be duly reported in the proper qu rter. Su h, in fact, was the case, for no sooner had our traveler ar rived at home than the whole story cama out, and madame was not long in packing up her traps, and wandering forth lo find the perjured, man, and lum out his imposture of a wife. She sa'letl a short time ago from Glasgow, and w may imagine if her husband finds her in Broad St., I.e will not tap her on the shoul ier and ask the news frae the north, but will be more 1 1 k oly lo cut ami run for California, leaving 'he two In dies to arrange matters in the bi-st way they can. Wi: have not -heard the re sult. Edinburgh Evening Post. MR. KVKKETT O.N SI.AVRRY. The Uuca N. York D uly Ohservei quotes the follo-.ving ext. act from a spetfeh delivered by Kdward Kveivtt in the House of Representatives in IS29 ! The New Haven (t -oimec-ticni) Rg;- j t t expresses the hope that the ilitic 'i I clergymen of Nu'W E;iglaud may read it ca refill iy. Sir, 1 am no soldier. My habits and education are veiy u.flhiilitaiy ; hut theie is no cause in which I woi.M soo. e tiuekle a knapsack on my back, n.d put H musket on my shoulder, than mat of putting down a servile iiiMinvt t.o.i at jhe Siuth. The great relation o." servi tude, in sonic form or other, with grea ter or less departure Irom theoretic equal ity of meu, is inseparable troin our na ture. Domestic !av ry is net in my judgment to y set down as an immoral or irreligious relation. No, sir; the New Testament says: 'Slaves obey yom masters,' 1 cannot admit that its duties are not presupposed and sanctioned by religion. I know of no way by which the form of this servitude can be fixed but by political institution.' The Savannah Republican copies the above and says At Ihe great celebration at Plymouth Rock last summer, M r. Yeadon ol South Carolina, iu the course of his speech, referred to ihe foregoing statemeut iu the presence of Mr. Everett and the company present. Mr. Everett seemed pleased with the reference, while a few abolitionists hissed. We have this from Mr.Yeadou himseiC , lot in the western part of the city worth J&8U0. In two years af te: wards the wife received the intelli gence of the death of her husband, and .some months subsequently mariied the second time, and afterwards disposed ol the lot, in order to set her husband up in business, and thus far they have lived happily together, and succeeded in making money off the lot. But, to the astonishment of all, the first husband returned home within the last two weeks, alive and hearty as ever, but jioorer iu wordly stores than when he left for the auriferous regions. It ap xars that the report of Ins decease was orcasioned by the death of a person of the same na.ne, which rejiort reached the wife through the newspapers. The first husband had remained only a y.ear or two in California, and migrated to ihe Sandwich Islands, where id luck befel him, and in consequence thereof he neglected writing to his Ix tter half. Kiiiding how affairs are now, the first husband seems reconciled to the loss ol his wife, but is desirous of regaining his property. Thus the matter now stands, and unless a compromise is effected be tween the pailies, the law will have to test the merits of it."
