When a man can rise superior to those p irty tr.i uiuiels whict have bound him for a series of years to one course of poh.ical fiction, and hail so controlled his vote its to have left him no discretion in the premises, it is an evidence that he is; a true Ameri can, and has declared his independence of part wire pullers. We say there is some thing noble in such action, and it should commend him thoroughly to our admira tion. Those of our own readers, who are anil have been politicians, know full well the mighty power of party trammels, and those of them who have undergone the or deal kt.ow the sacrifice of feeling growing out of intimate, social, and other asiocia tions required to throw off the incubus. We have been led to a train of reflection upon this subject by reading the proceed ings of a meeting in Tammany Hall of the General Committee, the oiher evening, when the administration was boldly de nounced for the appointment of John 31-K-nn, an Irisk Roman Cathulic, to the office of U. S. District Attorney. We have had a full report of the debate upon that occasion. It must be recollected that the committee is the oruan of the Ad ministration, and was supposed to be so en tirely devoted to it that anything like inde pendence was out of the question. Alc Keon is the appointee of Pierce, and his appointment has been openly and manfully denouneed by Pierce's committeev in tins city When it is remembered that the ad ministration holds great patronage, and consequently power here, and that in Tam many Hall is to be found those who here tofore have been devoted to this power, tie action upon this matter will be the more appreciated. We repeat that We admire the nerve an true devotion to American interest and principles which can thus at once disregard the bindiflg influences of party and all chances for political prefer ment, by denouncing the source of so much patronage as has the head of the Tam many patty. Americans must remember, and at the proper time reward those who have so no bly declared their independence and fear lessly bearded Bishop Hughes and his sa tellites in their very den. m . t FENCE POSTS.
