The nmhor of 'Sam Slick,' observes in he course of a work he has j'i?t publish fcilVihfit the trials to which traveling Mes iiMMrists are put in America, are, at times, hurniliatrng and painful enough, albeit thej? HfEifii, infinite sport to ihe unbelievers. tXire poor fellow, on arriving at a town in D iroit to lecture, wjis surrounded by Sev ern 1 citizens ytfllO told him there was a fheumatic palieht up stairs, who must be fund, or he himself would be escorted out bf town, astride of a nid, wiih the accom panying ceremonies. VVTe had better givt the feat of the stnfy as it vf ns related by the disciple of A1mer himself: '-Upstrs I went wiib 'era, mad as thun il&tJ. iell yon first lit being thought a humbug, and next, that my indtvidooat share of the American Eagle should be compelled into a measure, by thunder. The Buffalo Danocrarr of Saturday gives the particulars of a murder which has re cently come to light, and which was per petrated in December last, upon a Mr Thomas Easlabrook, of Reading, Vi.. for merly of Erie County, New York. Mr. Easlabrook was on his way to Michigan, to marry a lady of lhat Staie, a. id reached tavern wuhui two and a half miles oi the resilience of his betrothed. This was the last tti.it was heard of him, until a few weeks ago, when a man who was arrested for Jarceucy in the county where Mr. E disappeared, confessed thai he was one of the murderers, and detailed the circum stances. Itueetns that two men raet Mr E. at the tavern in question, ami engaged to take htm to his destination ; that on the way ihey encountered three other men, the prisoner being one, witn a wagon and two horses. The latter party stated lhat they were going to the same place with the others, and invited thm to get in and ride, wbicb they did. 'I 'hey soon stopped the vehicle, knocked Easlabrook down, stabb ed hmi to the heart, divided his money, some eight hundred dollars, among them, divided also his clothes, and buried the body under a stump The body was fouml us described. Two oihers of the murder ers have been arrested. It appears the ri v rurfi.uitf had learned that Mr. Easlabrook bad purchased a place in the neighborhood, ami would have money wiih hun, and ac cordingly deliberately planned this revolt ing crime, to get possession of the funds. Albany S Y., July 21. PIG WAR. The municteal pig war rages here at present, in jch to the dismay ot our adopi e I citizens.' Various stratagems are re sorted toon the part of hog-owners to evade the edict which casts out the swi.ie into suburban quarters The local reports give some rich scenes. Yesterday an Emeial dec.utade himself conspicuous, in his ei fbrt9 to assist an M. P. ir capturing pigs, in order to prove himself 'on the law's siil' Many were the porkers laid spraw Jipg by his stalwart hand, but, all at once, in the attempt to capture a mammoth grun xer, he was observed to hang back. But the, animal vas brought up nevertheless, and thrown ot bt back. ' Och inuEtfier,' cries- Paddy, 'What 'a v I done?' ' What's the matter V asked ihe M. P. 'Sure it's mesilf that's cotched roe own pig. Be jabers 'yez made me a soocide.' ' All right,' rwi -the, relentless officer , and pork wm immediately caited off, while Paddy, scratching his head, vacated ai ace the office of asmstaia-hogrteve. CHILDISH SINCERITY. A lady who wrs quite in the habit of dropping in at her neighbor's about meal limes, in the hope of obtaining an invitation to partake wiih the family, was recently completely nonplussed by ihe unhesitating I'rankness ot a child. Knowing that a neighbor's supper hour was five, she called in about 4, and settled herself down for a long call. "Il lakes two to mtke a bargair," am! ihe lady honored wiih the call had no idea if giving an invitation, if it was in her pow er to escape it. Accordingly, the hour of five brought no indications oi supper. Time wore on, ihe sun Wiis near its setting, ind still the same. A little girl, the neighbor's daughter, be gan to grow quite uneasy. At length, her mother havimr ;rone out for a moment the visitor said : "You mus' coine over and see me, Mary, some time." 'No, 1 won't," said the child. "Why not?" "Because I don't like you." ''But why don't you like me?" "Because I am hungry and want some supier." "Bui," said the visitor, amazed. "I don'! prevent 3-011 having your supper, do 1?" "Yes, you do!" said little Mary. "Moth er said she should'nt have supper until you were gone, it you stayed till midnight." In less than five ininutrs the visitor was inarching ont of the frontdoor with a very red face. She hasn't called to see Mary's mother since. Little Alary, in her childish frankness, has not 3'et learned the important lesson which afier years will not fail to teach her, viz: that ";he truth, however excellent or desirable in itself, is not to be spoken at all times," gallanTky, Aii Irishman was brought before a bail iff at Ipswich, on a charge of having six wives ! 'I he buihff askeJ how he could be so hardened a villmm, as to delude so many "Please yo'ir worship," says Par, 'I was only trying to get a good one."
