WHO IS THE GAY LOTHARIO J The following piece of the horrible we clip from the Sua Jay Timet: . . I Horrible Scene it a Broadway Ho .'. TEi--r-Ve learn, upon pretty good author ity that a terrible scene occurred last Mon day morning in one of -our moat respecta ble Broadway hotels. A "wealthy and iif fluential merchant of this city who had for ix years lived with a lady of some beau tjr and accomplishments, suddenly dis carded her for a new face that had caught his fancy and won his affections. This new favorite be conveyed to the hotel in question, where both remained as man and wife ! ' .. - -The forsaken lady, learning (be place m ind position of .her successful rival, boldly j took lodgings t J he same hotel, and. seek-, ling her opportunity .Jwt Monday morning, as soon as her faithless lover left the house, she entered the room, where her rival lay .in bed, and with a large knife-cut off one of her Breasts! She then plunged the knife into the wounded "woman's bosoua, with such foce that she-could with difl". . cnlry wrench it out.l tj f ,1 J The piercing screams of the assailed party soon attracted a crowd of servants 4 n I boarders, whea the' would be raurder ess was arrested, and her victim placed in the hands of a surgeon. A bank book con taining upwards of, four thousand dollars was found upon the person of, the culprit. Such extraordinary efforts have been made by the police arid others to keep the whole affair from the public, on account of the respectability of the'merchant alluded to, that "we-found it impossible to obtain the names of the parties "implicated, and we withhold the name of the hotel for obvious reasons. - '".j v A LOXQ CHASE AFTER A FUGITIVE -A' young roan named - Allen- forored a -check, for S3000 and received 81000; n cash on 'it at Marseilles, Ills. He then left, but .when the forgery was discovered, a detective was sent in search of him. He pursued him to St. Louis. Mobile, back to rSew i ork, then to tandford, Maine, then To Council iiluus, (la.,) to INebraska, Kan sas, back to Council Bluffs, to the interior of Iowa, to St. Louis, and finally to Boston, where he arrested the fugitive and brought iiua back to Illinois. The New Bedford Mercury calls Mr. Choate a 4 disunion ist,n. and u thinks the " glossy eloquence,'" of his, let ter too dangerous for the persual of its readers.
