The utmost excitement existed during yesterday in that section ef the city known as Loudenslagers Hill, in conseqoence of a murderous assault having been commit ted upon two well known citizens of that place, Col. J. Mavbury Turner. and" Mr, Tho Woollen. 'Various rumors were a- float during the day as to the circumstan ces attending mis sad nnair, and upon en quiry of persons witnessing it the follow ing statement was Retailed, to us : j Between 12 and 1 o'clock in the morn ingj as these gentlemen were approaching the residence of" Col. Turner,"they discov ered l that soma parties ,w5 fecrefed in. his ice-house, when , tie approached 4o the door and enquired who they were, and or Jerrd therri "to tom out'r Immediately two meo ran. out. aua, separating, one ,ot them ran towards i the city, and the other," out the road, parties who were presetnt fol lowing 'them and' calling out stop thief." The one who ran out the joad'was met a hort -distance , beyond the place -.by .'Mr,1 , Atrgaitua Pfeltz j who, hearing the cry, of his pursuers," seized and conveyed ' him back. to.whejeJJunerand Woolen 'were' sta.diDg. A soon as they" , reached, tb spot 'the nari drew; a large knife, and mi-" king a thrust at Turner, the blade" passed through his left arm into his - breast' -He then .qukkly turned.. upon Woollen before, he could be secured, and plunged the knife into ' his breast to the depth of some fire inches. - He next made a, thrust at Pfeltz, who had bold o( him, and indicted a wound of a painful though not of a serious char acter upon one of.- his arms, at the same time breaking his hold upon him and ef fecting his escape. ' 'The several blows were struck so . rapidly, that the parties could neither overpower him or escape from his reach.- f ' ' . j After breaking a wayie , agam ran out h road and although anumber of per eons started in pursuit he eluded ! them for" an hour or so, when he was. discovered secreted a short distance by a negro, whA reported the tact to toe watcnmaa in pur nu.i, wno iook nirri in cusioay, -ana. in a aiiort time mereaiier me companion oi tne cultythat the officers could convey them to the eastern station house, the infuriated crowd demanding that summary punish ment should be inflicted upon thctn, and iiavin so fur succeeded as to place a rope about the neck of the one ma king the as ault, for Ibe purpose of hanging hira upon tbe spot.' 1 They- were however taken to the station house, and "committed to jail. iney were Italian organ grinders, tbeir organs being afterwards found in tbe ice Jiouso. ; Their names have not as yet been Ascertained.. .. : j . . Professor Smith and Dr. Clendemn were promptly summoned to the aid of : the' in in red parties, who were immediately con veyed to the residence of CoL Turner, and upon an examination of their wounds they found them to be of a nature threatening a speedy fatal termination, from bemorbages which ensued. ; ,' Throughout the whole Iay tbe vicinity of CoL Turner's residence was thronged with his numerous friends, thougn they were both so low that but few were allowed admission to their rooms, t Deputy ' States' Attorney Pinkney pro ceeded there in tne afternoon to take their deposrtions, but they were in such a con dition as to preclude that being done. At a. late hour last night the physicians tn at tendance .ptonotlnced both of them hope less; they have, sank so fast during tbe day as to render their surviving throughout (he night as exceedingly improbable. - " : ;: ' i . sun FIRE. ' - -sI'A BitTisioKB:, Sept. 25. - - Yesterday morning, about a quarter past one o clock, a fire was discovered in a frame suble situated on Fitzpatrick.'s court, rear of the old Charles street city spring lot, Which speedily enveloped the tenement in Barnes, and communicated to a row of four amall dwellings, all of which were consid- i Wa a a raniy oamageo. i ne watcn promptly mounded tne alarm, and several companies were quicK la tneir operations, pouring their well-directed streams upon the roofs and. upper stories, otherwise . a most de structive conflagration must have ensued The stable contained ' four valuable horses nd a quantity of harness and feed, which were destroyed, notwithstanding every pos sible exertion was made in order to rescue them from the flames. The ; horses and table belonged to Mrs. George B. Clark, .of Baltimore county. - They were former ly insured in the Associated Firemen's of- Ace, but the policy expired on the 17th of June last, since which time the owner had lefened a renewal of the policy. , The first house was occupied by William Poole, whose, furniture whilst teing hastily re moved, was considerably broken ; he is un insured. Tbe next house was unoccupied. The third was id the occupancy of Mr. Michael Free, and the fourth by Mr. James Ryan, whose loss also consists in breakage of furniture; Neither of these parties were insured: Their aggregate, loss will be a. bout '91,500, including the horses which belonged to them. The damage sustained . by the houses will not exceed $500 or 600. , There ! is no doubt that, tbe build ings were designedly fired, as one of the parties states that at 9 1-2 o'clock on the previous evening he examined the premises, and finding everything in proper order, carefully secured the same, and besides no fire bad been used near the place. One of the firemen, a member of the U- ; nion company, residing with Mr. James Ryan, was quite . badly hurt, whilst Mr. Patrick Kelly, who boards with the same person, was burned upon the hand and arms. Such was tbe rapid progress of tbe flames that the occupants of the house made . very harrow escapes from beinsr . - O I burned to death, and but for the. daring and praiseworthy e Sorts of watchman P. Dobbin, of the Southern district, one of the women muet have perished. She was fast asleep whilst the fire was raging, and on ly awoke when the flames had actually penetrated her chamber. Whilst endeav oring to -find her way out, her clothes caught fire, whereupon Dobbin seized and carried her to a place of safety. - THE COST OF AN EJECTMENT FROM RAIL ROAD CARS.
