Nilitettess is simjdy ridionlous; it is the
absence ol gr.od breeding in a giil to
iicoept it, ancf the height of self suffi
cient impertinence to demand it. A
case ol this sort occurred to myself.
Alter travelling some -three uights and.
d.iys in the cars, and having, as I
thought, firmly secured my seat at a
convenient s distance from the stove,!
found, myself, afier returning from what
the conductor of the cars had called
"dinner, ejected; fioni my seat by l
couj le of way passengers, one a young
man of abfiut eighteen or nineteen, the
other a girl, to my. .judgment, about
thirteen or fourteen years old. "My
uood ftiend," said 1 to the boy, will
you let me get into my scat?''. "I am
here with this lady," was the pert re
ply. - tVeil, then, I must beg the young
lady to rise and give me tny shawl, on
i vvhich she is now sitting, and iu adJi-
lion to that, I must beg to retain my
seat. I he young lady turned her head
away, and neither moved or minded me
at all. A g:i in I entreated of the taiy to
let me have my seat, staling that I bad
not been in bed for three day.t. and that
he was only a way passenger. The
hoy retaining still his seat, I geully seiz
ed his arm, and assured him that I
should try to eject him by force if he did
not give up his seat voluntarily. -'You
can not sit by this lady, sir," he ex
claimed. 'O, yes, sir5 1 replied, "she
is a mere child, and 1 am old enough
to he her grandfather." This at lat
roused the ire of the young lady. 'I
nil no child, sir," she ejeculated, with a
violent toss of her head. " Then you
are a gnl," I aid, by way of correcting
my mistake. Not a girl, either," she
cried, curling her lip and turning up her
nos with inexpressible disdain. Then,
jumping on the lap of the young man
hy the side of her, the young woman
allowed me to legaiu possession of my
shawl and seat. The tale is told. You

Lucy favored her heaters with a long

next speaker was a young hairy

took the hint aud sat down soon

. A series of resolutions were presented
for discussion, of which the following
are a sample.
"Resolved, That the Republican par

for its most popular rallying cries a fe-'

consistency to do justice hereafter in
States whe'e it holds control. '
"Resolved, That the monopoly of the
Klective Franchise and thereby all the
powers of legislative government by
man solely on the ground of sexr is a
usurpation coudemed alike by reason
and common sense, subversive of all
the principles of jusiice, oppressive and
demoralizing in its operations, and
insulting to the dignity of human na

were made by the. gentleman with the

HORRIBLE DEATH FROM UVDROPHOHIA
We learn that on Monday of last
week a young man named Henry
Broiznian, son of Charles Brotzmau,
fr'sq., residing near the Lehigh Gap,
d.ed fiom the shocking effects of hy
dr phobia. He was bitten by a dog
belonging to his father about six weeks
previous, as were also sevpral head of
catile, swine and a horse. Fears aris
ing in the family that the dog might be
mait he was itistautly killed.
Fearful of 'the consequence of the
bite the young man received, medical
aid was summoned and the ordinary
prescription administer d; and finding
no particular symptoms arise ihe family
felt relieved, believing a cure had been
effected, all was well, and no more
thought about it until a few weeks since
the horse that had been bitten at ihe
same time and by the same dog became
rapid aud died from the effects.
After he was dead he was skinned, in
which operation the young man that
tiad been bitten assisted, and by some
mea s received a wound on one of his
fingers, through which ihe virulent
blood of the horse commingled with his
own, and of course repoisoued his whole
system. Several days after he com
plained of dullness aud pain in the head
and limbs, which, with the bewildered
appearance of the eyes and dread of the
sight of water, were, the first symptoms
ot ihe horrible disease.
This was followed by a general pros
tration ot the systifm, accom pained by
violent paroxysms, with a flow of saliva,
which ended in his death as above
siaied. Although competent medical
M was I iron glit to service, yet nothing
ould be done to save him, as the fatal
poison was so spread over the sys
