During the recent session of the New Hampshire Confer ence of Ihe Methodist Ministry thev were addressed by- Rev. M. Wiley, of Coflstown, agent of the American Bible Society, j One of the preachers . arose and said he had in his keeping a bequest from a poor woman, now decoased, tvho resides in Keene, and in her life time had taken a deep interest in the prosper ity of the cause for distributing the Sa cred Scriptures. In her last hours, she gave her only possession after a long ill ness, a cage containing two beautiful canaries, as a legacy to the Uible Society a memento of her deep feeling for the causa. The birds he had kept since November, and he now would preseut them in behalf of one who had gone to her final resting place. The speaker then uncovered the birds, which, restored to the sunlight, sung me lodiously. Tho effect from so simple a cause cannot easily be imagined. It was suggested that the birds be sold at auc tion. This wa done, and with the vol untary contributions accompanying, ihe sum of one hundred dollars was raised as a fund given by the instrumentality of the poor sewing woman.
