Slinson, E litor of Tim N, Y- D iy Book, was arrested on SUurday, on complaint of the District'Attort.cy, who charges him with en couraging illegal gambling. It appears that on tho 1st instant, an advertisement of a Georgia lot tery appeared in the paper, and attcnf.oti was drawn to it editorially, but, strange to say, in the same issue an editorial article appeared, calling upon the District Attorney to use strenuous ef forts to suppress gambling, and stating that Po lice Justices were no better than State Prison birds. The District Attorney took the advice of Mr. Slinson and promptly caused his arrest. THE FARMERS' RANK. The Elizabeth City Pioneer of Tuesday, in an ar'.iclo in defence of the Fanners' Dank at that place, says : "We are authorized to say that no loss will oc cur to tho holders of Farmers' Rank notes.
