The State Journal, a Republican
organ, lias been revived in Raleigh
by Mr. J. M.Allen, lie announ
ces that he will support the amend
ment because the motto of his paper
is "White Supremacy administered
by Republicans." Giving the reasons
why it will support the amendment,
the Journal says :
"As a Western Republican, we
te.une to Raleigh in 1817 to accept a
position under the fusion adminis
tration. We have had an opportu
nity lo observe and study eastern
conditions and have become con
vinced that there is something radi
cally wrong in the East. While the
Amendment may not cure all our
ills, it heads in the right direction
and wili improve present conditions.

take this course, believing it to be
for the best interest of the white
people of North Carolina and -at the
same time will elevate and improve
the negro race. We take this po
sition as a Republican who lias al
