' Resolutions adopted by the Con ference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church at Macon, ("J a., contains one plank that will cause much comment : "We commend the Southern white mail because ho refuses to let negroes drink at his founts, cat at his cafes, sleep in his hotels, for the following reasons: it forces the negro lo build his own resorts, teaches him business and turns a Hood of money to negro vaults and bank accounts. It gives his boy aud girl work and establishes thrift, industry aud econ omy." That stands out in marked con trast to the plaints of certain negro politicians and preachers who have been clamoring for the right to sleep aid eat at hotels built for white peo ple. Ami there is more sound sense in it. The true position that is ta ken where kindly aud friendly re" jut ions subsist between the races is o:ie of complete separation in church es, schools, theatres, railroad cars aud other like public places. The white people of the South always help the negroes in every way. There is no suggestion in any Southern city of social equality. It is only wiicn men like Koosevelt introduces it and ilataut politicians for base (unds preach equality that there is trouble between the races. The Macon negroes arc right in saying that this separation affords mi incentive to negro effort, provides avenues of employment and useful ness to competent negroes, aud will in fact result in business and linan cial good to the negro race. The whites draw the line for another reason; an imperative reason. Uti t it will have the result pointed out by the Macon negroes if that race is wise enough to meet the demands In doing so they are always assured of the assistance and co-operation of their white neighbors who love to ee them succeed. ews and Ob server. KNOWS HOW TO FARM Mr. ;N. V. West is right at the front as a crack cotton farmer. Yesterday in front of tiie store of Mr. John U. K-.rr;ill there was seen a healthy looking cotton plant. It was finely boiled, closely limbed and three feet in height. This came from the Elma farm, three miles lrom Waleigh, und the growth is such t hat on the ten acres there a bale and a quarter to t he acre is confidently looked for Some acres will make two bales. Mr. West should be happy, but he tells u joke about this. This is that j once a farmer who was in debt, said ! if he could raise cotton enough to j pay oil the mortgage an I all hi-j debts he would be happy, lie did j this, but when asked if lie was haj - j py said ''No, for i think I've strain- , ed the land." !
