Thus far two candidates have announced them-eives candidates for the office of Sheriff of this county, subject to the fiction of the Democratic convention, both of these gentlemen are worthy the confidence and votes of the people and either will nil the office acceptably to the people. We hope the candidacy of these, aud all other as pirants, for this or any other office, may be fought fairly and friendly and that the fight may end at the Convention, and that the candidates may leave the convention determined to ijght for Democratic success regardless of personal ambitions. The election on Tuesday passed oil (juietiy enough in this town and while the forces on both sides work ed hard ftr their respective ticket, the best of feelings seemed to prevail and when the vote was counted each side met victory or defeat like men. The only demonstration here was the ringing of the church bells every hour from 5 a. m., until 8 p. ni., and the prayer s-ervice held at the different churches. Naval Reserves Elects New Officers Monday Night. At a meeting of the 4th Division of the Naval Reserves held Monday night, Mr. C. Latham was elected Lt. Corn nander to (ill ihe vacancy caused, by the promotion of Lt. J."L Phelps to a highor rank. Mr. R. P. Walker was elected Lt., .Jr., Rank and Mr. J. S. Norman was elected Ensign. These elections were sim ply promotions. Columbia Dramatical Club. The Columbiti Dramatical Club, will present, "Down in Dixie," at the Opera House here on Tuesday night next. Hassell, died at her home in Washington on the morning of May :23rd, after a lingering illness of nearly a year. On Monday afternoon on arrival of the -i;35 train from Isorfolk, a nice looking gentleman and u- pretty girl, egiered the hack of the Hotel Roanoke aud were driven to the hotel, i-ooii the gentleman presented himself at the office of Register of Deeds and applied for a marriage license for Charles N. Leary, and Essie Hathaway, tho former of E. City, the latter of Moyoc, N. C. It was issued and Rev. L. T. Singleton of the M. E. Church, was sent for, who met the happy couple in the parlor of ihe hotel where, in the presence ot a few guests, he united Uiem in the holy bonds of matrimo ny, and they received the congratu hrions and best wishes of taeir new friends. The groom, Mr. Leary, is a travel ing salesman, was born in this town, hut left here when epiite 'a child, thi? his first visit to his native town was both romantic and pleasant. The bride is one of Currituck's most charming young ladies. It seems that Miss Hathaway had been visiting friends near Roper and had started home when met by her aflianee at Mac key Ferry and they came here with ahoye result.
