KITCHIH HERE- NOUTII CAROLINA'S NEXT GOVERNOR AROUSES THE DEMOCRATS AND TUTS REPUBLICANS TO THINKING. Hon. W. -W. Kitehin. tLe notui- nee of the Democratic party, who is to be the next Governor of thia great State, arrived here over the N. & S. Railroad at noon 0:1 Wednesday, lie was met at the depot by a large numner 01 citizens, was taken into u carriage in which was Congress man Jno. II. Small, County Chair man, Thos. W. Blount and County Treasurer Clarence Latham, was driven, under an escort of mounted Marshals to Hotel Brinkley ' where dinner was served. After dinner the Speaker was escorted . to the Court House which was well filled with people from all parts of the county who hud gathered ' to hear tins gifted son of North Carolina proclaim the docirities of the great Democratic Pat ty. Mr. W. M. Bond, Jr., in a few well chosen words, introduced our next Governor. He ascended to the stand amid deafning applause and for one hour and fifty-live minutes held the attention of his audience. His speech was practical,' strong, convincing and to the point. It was void o rnud slinging or dirty abuse, j'et in no uncertain words did lie denounce the Republican party and its policy. He reasoned with Dem ocrats to do 't heir-duty as it becometh men. taking it ail in all it was a speech that is sure to win the votes of nil right thinking men. Since the speech we have heard Republi cans say they are -not sure but that they will vote for Kitehin. At one time the speaker referred to the able and eliicent service of our Congressman, and the fact that Mr. Small whs present did jiot check the feelings of our people, which was expressed 111 prolonged and loud ap plause at. reft-reuee to him. From here M;. Kitehin went to Columbia where ne spoke at night, from there he gn s to Hyde and on through the Eastern counties mak ing votes for the Democratic ticket at every point. , Our Town Mourns. The dark mantle of mourning ha. again been wraptied about our town aud the hand of allliction and grief has been laid heavily on our homes, the reaper death has enie:ed tin sick clumber and born away loved ones. God in His infinite and al wise providence claims His own, leaving heaving heart broken pireuis, a ov mg wi.e, an aged mother bowed in grief. U11 Sunday afternoon, while all nature teemed rejoicing in the beau tiful Sabbath, the spirit of little Phillip, the livu-year old son of .Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Gaboon, was caught on 1 he wings ot death and born up to that home beyond the ky. Monday uiglit wlnle ail the 'world seemed to repose in puice beneath the soft beems of an autumn moon the spirit of little Loucille, the five-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Whit Stubbs, was wafted up to that Kingdom made for little children. These two bright chddren, the light and life of fond parents, the joy and hope of happy homes, had beeu afflicted with throat tiouble, pronounced dypiitheria, fur ten days but "were thought to by better until h few hours before their death. The remain. of little Phillip were laid to rest in the Episcopal church yard at noon on Monday, while all that was mortal of little Loucille were consigned to mot her earth in the Baptist church yard Wednesday morning. On Tuesday morning in a hospital iu Norfolk, the reaper death entered and took a way the spirit of one of our most highly respocte I towns men, Mr. J. F. Jackson, age 54 years. Air. Jackson had been a great suli'eier for months with can cer and was taken to the hospital where an operation was performed in hopes of relief, but he gradually grew weaker until the end came. His remains were brought home on Wednesday and yesterday morning were laid to rest in the family grave yard in the country. The deceased leaves a wife, several children, an aged mother, several brothers sisters and a host of friends and who mourn his death. To make the sad scenes mow? sad and heartrendering was the fact that friends, and even relatives were bar red from the two former homes by the vuarentinc, but it cannot bj said that in either case those homes did not have the sympathy of our entire community. Had a Close Call. Mrs. Ada L Croom, the widely known proprietor of the Croom Hotel, Vaughn, Miss., says: "For several mouths I sufinr ed with a severe cough, and cousuuip'ion seemed to have its grip on me, when a friend recotnended Dr King's New Dis covery. I began takinii it, M.d three bot. ties affected a complete cure." Tbe faui of this life saving congh and cold rt-medy, and lung and throat healet is wofld wida.
